I'm not so good at talking about things to other people. I've tried to leave them out of it as long as I can remember, to protect them from getting involved... but I guess I could try.

We've already gotten someone killed because they were trying to help us.

As far as I know the dangers of our world haven't followed us here, but I still don't want to put anyone in danger for the knowing.

I'm afraid I can't offer an explanation for why things turned out the way they did but rules are different here. People can arrive here from the same world but different times and people can also arrive here after they've died.

Also, the dead do not stay dead here, though there is a price to be paid for coming back to life. I was killed in April and came back to life a week later, though my left arm is now paralyzed from the shoulder down. A friend of mine died recently and he came back three days later. He lost an eye.

It's also likely all sciences, magic, and everything else work here. Not everyone here is a human, some are far from it.

But overall... consider this as a chance to start over or to enjoy things. I know it's not the happiest place and things are... strange at times, but enjoy life.

But beyond that, why don't you and Edward come over for some tea and cookies?

That could explain for why I'm still alive at all, and the gap between my arrival and Ed's... but so far as I know nothing has been taken from me. In fact, I've gained much more than I would have thought possible.

Ahh, it's only people who have died here. People who had already died and were brought here don't lose anything. The animus, they're... spirits of some sort. Sometimes you hear them talk over the PCDs and shortly after something happens. It's been determined they watch over the afterlife and don't like it when we intrude.

It's... difficult, but I've adjusted. There's worse I could have lost.

... no. I don't think it would really be worth it. I was going to suggest something like my brother's prosthetics, but it's painful and would involve amputation. It's not worth it.

Besides, I know how it works, but there's no way Ed or I could possibly create automail of the caliber needed to allow for the range of control, and-

Hmm. From what I've heard, when spiritual beings are pulled here, they gain a body visible to normal humans. Shinigami for example. I have no idea how this works, there never was something similar in my world.

People here can come from different times, and some of them are dead in their world. Also dead do not stay dead - two of my friends died and came back to life later, althrough not without a price.

..it's normal to try to do everything to keep our loved ones safe, even if the price sometimes is too high.

... I wasn't exactly a purely spiritual being, I don't know how to describe it. My soul was... displaced through an accident and temporarily bound to a suit of armor.

But yeah, that would make a lot of sense.

I have no idea what a Shinigami is... I've never heard the word. Is that like a ghost?

Everything has its price.

Shinigami is a God of Death that guides the souls into Afterlife and protects the living from evil spirits that prey on them. If you're staying in miss Unohana's clinic, you may ask her for better explanation - she's a shinigami. There are 'normal' humans - ones without any special abilities, humans with some special abilities, like you and your brother for example, and non-humans. We've all got pulled from different worlds.

... I haven't had any real doctors come and see me, only nurses. They have other, injured patients to attend to, so I can't say I've met anyone like that.
