The drunk Indian thing isn't just US based. We get it here in Canada, too. I've been called a squaw and I've had somebody ask if I have all my teeth (I do). Some of our Rez's here are in deplorable condition with some having no running water despite complaining about it for years.

Since I moved to southern Ontario (from northern Ontario), I am most frequently mistaken for East Indian instead of Native American (Toronto has one of the largest Asian populations in the world outside of Asia). I've even had people argue with me about what nationality I am (usually Sri Lankian/Balgladeshie but sometimes Pakastani or even Afghani).

I think you should not only confront the teacher, but speak to higher ups in your school about this as it is horribly racist and it may also be against the law (it would be if that were said in a classroom here in Canada).

This ... I have no words. What a horrible thing to experience in class! School shouldn't be the place of ignorance, quite the opposite, really. What a despicable man ( ... )

I knew Native American's were marginalised, but I didn't know about the 'alcohol intolerant' stereotype, and how acceptable it is to be racist against your people.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, I cannot imagine what it must have been like. I'm disgusted!

Have you since confronted your professor? Perhaps you can go over his head, try to get a disciplinary action against him or even go to the press, if the problem is bigger than your professor.
