New meds not good!

Apr 18, 2010 13:53

Poor Cuddles, the vet put her on new antibiotics for this Leptosporosis bacteria. Unfortunately, she keep throwing up because of it.  She barely eats or drinks, and now she throws up whatever we get into her.  Need to call vet tomorrow to see if they can give her a shot of antibiotics or something. She will get dehydrated at this rate, which is ( Read more... )

Oh dear. Maybe orally applied meds are indeed a bad idea. Keeping sending good vibes to her!

I know! Tomorrow we will call the vet and see is there is an alternative. They want her on these pills for 20 more days. No way she can take them for that long. She can't survive on ice cream alone for 20 more days. I have been trying to keep her at home, but she may need to be admitted to the hospital if this keeps up. If anything were to happen to her, I would want her at home surrounded by those that have loved her all these years, not in a cold, sterile cage with strangers. Getting scared again!

I hope there's an alternative and that it'll work. It would be much easier and probably much more effective.

I will let you know tomorrow night as to what the vet says. I've been reading about this Leptosporsis on the internet. Some articles say that it is highly contageous, and humans can catch it, so we need to also ask the vet if we need to contact our doctors to be tested. As Cuddles sleeps on the foot of our bed and I have been cleaning her nose and throw ups up, if it is as contageous as some article say..... ugh!

Decided to give Cuddles her antibiotics in the late afternoon to see if that helps with the vomiting. So far, it has been 4 hours and she is still keeping it all down. Hubby was able to get her to eat a little bit during the day and afternoon (he is off on Monday's). Now keeping track of anything she eats to see exactly how much or how little she is getting in. There is no antibiotic shots for pups, only pills or IV. IV means she would have to stay in the animal hospital, not something I really want to do. I bring her to my parents every morning and pick her up every night. She is not good with strangers and strange places, and really loves to be with her grandpa and grandma. If something were to happen to her, I want her around us, not strangers. She needs to be on these meds for 4 more weeks! Let's hope changing pills to afternoon helps.

Sorry, I was very busy and now I'm trying to catch up.

Oh noes! Poor Cuddles! *pets & sends healing vibes* It makes me sad to hear there's no good news. I do hope she's feeling better now. Does she? Please say yes?

Decided to give her both pills in the afternoon so she will only be sick once a day. She is eating a bit every morning. My mom watches her all day while I am at work. She emails me with what she has been able to get Cuddles to eat. She will eat one fried egg with runny yolk, half a slice of buttered toast, and 2 jelly beans. *yeah, the jelly beans made me laugh too*. Still having issues with evening food. If she doesn't eat dinner, she will throw up the pills within 2 hours, which means they are not getting fully into her system. Tonight, I will have hubby try to get her to eat another egg and toast. Maybe that will be enough to coat her stomach. She won't eat what I give her because I am the big old meany that gives her pills and things that makes her sick. I decided early on that only one of us should give her pills, if we both did it, she might not take any food or treats from both of us, and then we would be in a worse predicament than we are in now.

Thanks for checking in and caring. I really appreciate it! ♥♥♥

It's good that your mom is there to help you and Cuddles while you're at work. And that's a great idea to give her both pills at once. She doesn't need to suffer twice a day then. Awww poor little puppy. Jelly beans!?! Well, at least she's eating something. I hope your plan works out and she takes dinner from your hubby.

*hugs* ♥ That's my nature. I care for my friends and their sorrows. I really, really hope Cuddles condition is going to be better soon.

She ate some baby food tonight, and some cucumbers *go figure, my dog loves her vegis and fruits*

She also has a sweet tooth, hense jelly beans. Now we are waiting to see if she can keep the food and pills down or if they revisit us! Won't know for at least 1 more hour, as it usually takes her 2 hours in the tummy to get ill.
Will try to keep you updated!

*hugs you back, my dear friend*

Cuddles had to stay home today due to some appointments with my parents. When I got home, she was so happy to see someone that she ran around the yard and played like her old self! Last night I grilled petite sirloin steaks for each of us. She refused to eat! STEAK! But tonight, I pulled it out again just to see, and she ate the whole thing, with gusto!!! I will give her the pill in a few more minutes, before she gets so comfy and falls asleep. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, but tonight, I have a good memory to sleep on!

Crap, she threw it all up an hour later. :(
