My nitty gritty race report (part 1) of the Pittsburgh Half Marathon from yesterday, which I finished in 2:00:50, while dressed in costume (costume details are next post).

the raceThe preface to the race seemed like it was going well in March, but then April happened. I suspect training a little too enthusiastically was a likely contributor to ( Read more... )

It feels SO GOOD to not be running right now.

Probably not wrong, but it is super weird. When I run like 1 or 2 miles, all I can think about is wanting to run some more. I swear this didn't used to be the case. When did I turn into one of those people?!

i do also miss runner's high. mostly i'd get it when i'd been running a lot of many-mile runs, and then do some sort of easy/fast short run. i have felt it once since starting to run recently again (with the knee braces on), which is a good sign, but mostly i feel exhausted like a novice. :P

Great! I'm glad you are feeling good about it.
2 hours, and 10 minutes improvement is pretty danged awesome.

I love these race reports! Great job on your race! Don't skip breakfast next time. Did I miss what the costume was? I can't imagine that it was Elsa!

No, you didn't miss the costume. I haven't done anything more than drop a couple vague hints so far. :) That detail post comes tonight. Of course, if you're really super impatient, you could look up my official race photo previews online. And no, not Elsa. She doesn't meet all the criteria I needed. :)

Richard does a yoga for runners and cyclists workshop that you might want to invest in next marathon. He probably does a few throughout the year. Plus he's just an amazing teacher and awesome guy.

Neat! I will look this up. Today's yoga flow at CMU was not at all what I needed. Tomorrow's should be better.

Maybe a little restorative (aka assisted napping)?

Well, specifically I want things that gently warm up and then slowly stretch my legs a lot. This class moved too fast and focused on the wrong things and just wasn't my style at all. Plus she did things like tell us exactly where limbs and bodies should be in each posture, which totally does NOT work when you have people with a wide range of flexibility and ability and if I had actually been trying to follow I would have either overworked things or else gotten to that limb position in sacrifice of actually working the right things in the rest of my body. Boo.

Anyways, yay, I am in Bike Pgh!
