My nitty gritty race report (part 1) of the Pittsburgh Half Marathon from yesterday, which I finished in 2:00:50, while dressed in costume (costume details are next post).

Richard does a yoga for runners and cyclists workshop that you might want to invest in next marathon. He probably does a few throughout the year. Plus he's just an amazing teacher and awesome guy.

Neat! I will look this up. Today's yoga flow at CMU was not at all what I needed. Tomorrow's should be better.

Maybe a little restorative (aka assisted napping)?

Well, specifically I want things that gently warm up and then slowly stretch my legs a lot. This class moved too fast and focused on the wrong things and just wasn't my style at all. Plus she did things like tell us exactly where limbs and bodies should be in each posture, which totally does NOT work when you have people with a wide range of flexibility and ability and if I had actually been trying to follow I would have either overworked things or else gotten to that limb position in sacrifice of actually working the right things in the rest of my body. Boo.

Anyways, yay, I am in Bike Pgh!

I hate when people refer to inches and angle measures. Sorry, I did not bring my protractor and ruler to class!

There comes a point when you realize that everything the instructor is saying should be regarded as a suggestion and that the only mandatory thing is breathing. And while it would be disruptive to be doing, say, handstand while everyone else is in warrior 2, an approximation of the pose is just fine (it sounds like you have figured this out already). Cannot tell you how many times I have appeared to accept an adjustment just to go back to the way I was doing it previously because that is what actually works for me. Though these days I notice that my teachers tend to adjust me in ways that actually feel good and get me deeper into the pose -- so of course those are the sorts of adjustments I offer my own students.
