I had not! I'm really unfamiliar with most places more than an hour or so out, so I just hadn't heard of it yet, but I just googled it a bit and it looks like a great spot. If we went there would you be able to join us? :)
(Alas, it looks like the hot spring baths aren't open in the middle of winter)
With respect to the scenic overlooks that lacked their scenic overlookness, I found that while the LHHT is relatively new (constructed in 1970) it's very possible that these were actually overlooks before. The first one was at the top of a slope completely surrounded with lots of new growth bushes and trees. At the second one, it likely would have been nice if there wasn't a cell phone tower right there in the middle of the clearing. That tower (with its two story bunker with separate access doors for half a dozen telcos, a second smaller bunker for other entities and a bunch of generators (since people can't share)) was certainly not there in 1970. The older and smaller radio tower next to it (which may or may not be in service now) wasn't really blocking any view from the trail. Unfortunately the tower location was probably picked for the same reason that this would be a nice scenic overlook. It's at a local maximum with line of sight for a good ways.
