I wonder if it'll do Beejy some good to see Mummy loving on another horse...hmm.

Glad Tazzy is out of the vet's and hopefully on the mend for good this time. I know what you mean about vet bills; Sage has never colicked (knock on wood) but just his Equine Metabolic Syndrome diagnosis and supplements has me in debt for over $1000 with my vet. Very luckily he does let me pay him off over time. Recently, when my dog was sick, I didn't know quite what to do with her because the last 2 vets I've had for the dogs pushed meds on me like nobody's business, charged me an arm and a leg, and seemed hardly to care about my individual dogs at all. I ended up taking her to my horse vet because he does do accounts, and he does do a good job. He seems to care about my individual animal and not just prattle on for 10 minutes about stuff anyone with half a brain would know and then charge me $50 for a consultation fee.

Vets! Can't live with 'em and your animals can't live without 'em right?

And I hope it's not swine flu too.

Totally know what you mean about the itemised account from the vet *shudder*

So glad to hear that he is on the mend even though he believes that he is starving.

I'm so glad he's on the mend! I almost lost a horse that was very close to me (Shinto--the first horse that felt like "mine") from sand colic. So is he out on grass that grows up through sand or what? I'm confuzled by how things grow in sand like that... but maybe you have super-grass.

mmm, most of the hospitable part of Western Australia (WA) is a 'sandy coastal plain'. the level of sand varies, but it is an extremely sandy state & we have LOTS and LOTS of cases of sand colic here. people will argue till they're black & blue in the face about what is the best preventative, but when it comes down to it, even the horse on free choice hay, oil drenched every six months, nil worms, will still get it, inexplicably.
it's worse at Paul's (where beej is), about 15km closer to the ocean, but i guess cos i have a lot more control over what beejay eats? who knows. kelli's horse died of it last year & there have been a number of colics there over the years.

just ask sprinklerized. i think the sand SHOCKED her. sticky, heavy, black sand. it's a bitch.

God, I'm glad he's doing better. What a horrible scary few days. And vet bills are always obscene, God I'm glad that after fires all ours was free because we would have been looking at over a thousand between the three horses.
I really hope every thing sorts out for you okay, and that Tazzie STAYS better. *hugs*
Oh, and that you don't have swine.
