I dunno. The 18 year old owns the horse and it's her decision whether or not to follow through with a promise. Verbal contract? Enforceable in the US, but hard as hell to prove. Really, the family should have gotten a written contract if they wanted the horse that badly.

Oh, and they were wrong for deleting your comment. From what you're saying, I think you were absolutely right.

Besides that, if your comment got deleted, there's no telling how many others were deleted as well. Perhaps there were more people supporting the 18 yo.

I think the biggest deal was the gutless way it was done, at night via SMS from her father's phone, instead of calling herself the next day.

Said 18 year old is a drama llama and yes its her horse, but it could have been handled better.

That's a shitty situation, but really they should have gotten a contract drawn up. If it was me leasing out one of my horses, I would definitely have a clause in there saying I could terminate the lease at any time, if certain situations or circumstances arose. It seems like a bitchy thing to do, but my horse comes first and foremost!!
