I wanted to open this up for discussion, because i've been feeling the pressure to move on from Farscape (the fandom that, until recently, i've vidded well nigh exclusively) - and finally, i'm emptying the back burner of the vid ideas that've been simmering there for the past year and half and i'm ready. if not exactly to move on, then to move

I'm still quite impressed/awed by your process. I'd love to rifle through your many notebooks, to see the mysterious handwritten squiggles that make sense only to you. That's just brilliant!
but what i've been doing lately is classifying a lot of scenes by whether they're close ups or wideshots, or whether the camera or the people are moving left to right or vice versa... i always try to go for meaning, but lots of times movement takes priority.
Very wise words! I tend to pick out these moments and stick them a little bit away from where I'm editing on the timeline and plug them in when needed. It's true that the main priority is meaning, but sense and movement are a close second, indeed. *nods*
thanks so much for your reply - great to hear how ( ... )

There's a very active vid group on LJ - Torchwood_files - which is interesting to look over, and which might help you. Or even the fic tw group.
Ok I'm babbling so I'll shut up now, In the meantime I'll look forward to seeing what you produce. Love as always, sue x

i really hope that TW jumpstarts your vidding muse. it is a lovely show, isn't i t? and really, has a lot of kinship with Farscape. even the number of core team members is the same - and they're sort of isolated in their own world, out of touch with the larger universe. and suffering. suffering. suffering.
and they're all so beautiful. and passionate. watching TW, i feel my fingers begin to itch.
one issue i have is that i'm still vidding so much farscape in my head. i can listen to almost any song, and figure a way to put crichton & co. in the timeline. i think that's part of what's holding me up. must stop vidding farscape to every frelling song i hear. oops......
always happy to hear from you sue!!!! babble on!

I've been in your shoes before, as you probably know! Becoming interested in another fandom is normal and inevitable. It is difficult to get your bearings at first, and you feel sort of lost with all of the new footage, but eventually you get your vidding feet and take off.
Torchwood is a very worthy successor to Farscape. I don't believe that one has to stop vidding one fandom when they go to another fandom, though. Vid whatever you feel like at the time, whether it be Torchwood (yay!), Farscape, or Stargate. I do think that opening yourself up to more fandoms will help you grow as an artist, though. :)
You can do it, and I know you can do it well.
