I wanted to open this up for discussion, because i've been feeling the pressure to move on from Farscape (the fandom that, until recently, i've vidded well nigh exclusively) - and finally, i'm emptying the back burner of the vid ideas that've been simmering there for the past year and half and i'm ready. if not exactly to move on, then to move

I'm still quite impressed/awed by your process. I'd love to rifle through your many notebooks, to see the mysterious handwritten squiggles that make sense only to you. That's just brilliant!
but what i've been doing lately is classifying a lot of scenes by whether they're close ups or wideshots, or whether the camera or the people are moving left to right or vice versa... i always try to go for meaning, but lots of times movement takes priority.
Very wise words! I tend to pick out these moments and stick them a little bit away from where I'm editing on the timeline and plug them in when needed. It's true that the main priority is meaning, but sense and movement are a close second, indeed. *nods*
thanks so much for your reply - great to hear how you vid in your head. um, without seeing the material? that's a gift i'd love to have. there's a freedom and spontaneity about that that i really envy. i'm much more painstaking in choosing what i put in a timeline......but i'm not sure that all that angst results in anything as beautiful as your "cold light of morning". ah BSG - talk about a show that's just asking to be vidded to.
Yeah, my process is just...odd. Kinda frustrating in a way since I can only sort it out myself, and I constantly battle myself. But that's just normal for any editor, I think. The worst part for me though is when I come up with visuals I can't duplicate in reality. For instance, just yesterday I got a new vid idea and part of it wants to be animated. AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT, WTF??? :P
Oh and thanks for bringing up my lack of vidding BSG for like a year now! Pfft. :P
