[ And enter a very excited looking Apollo Justice, having just stepped out of the courtroom doors. In his world, he's just taken his bar exam, and before he realizes that he's not home, he lets out an excited WHOOP! of joy, most likely catching the attention of any passers-by. Apollo has, of course, practiced his Chords of Steel training this

Why is he so familiar? And then he remembers-- the day those new people came here! But this one seems different. So he looks over at him, unsure of what to say... the boy does look confused, but... ]
...
Which Gavin would you be referring to?

No longer home, huh..? That made Apollo worry even more. What of his home..? The client he was supposed to meet with the next day? And if what if Gavin hadn't found his way here? Apollo could stand on his own two feet, sure, and he knew enough about the law to hold his own in court, but... He still worried. ]
With all due respect, sir, do you know if there's some way I can search for someone..? I need to find out if there's someone here I know.

You can look on the network. If you have a cellphone, or a laptop-- though...
[ He gestures towards the boy's pockets ]
You may as well have a small communicator on you already.

[ Quickly, he dives his hands into his pockets and pulls out the red SmartPhone that his boss had gotten him for his birthday. He'd gotten so used to carrying it around that the weight had been something he'd taken for granted, and Apollo wasn't sure why the idea of him still carrying it surprised him. ]
... Do they work here, Mr. Edgeworth?
[ Even as he asks the question, Apollo flits through his contact list, finding Mr. Gavin's number and hitting the 'send' button. ]

[ He takes a look at the communicator in the boy's hands, wondering how exactly a rookie had enough money to purchase it. He might have been working another job but... curiousity does make him wonder.
He blinks, when he sees the boy dialing-- and raises an eyebrow. If he was lucky, whoever he was attempting to reach would not be here at all. ]

You have reached the voice mailbox of Kristoph Gavin at Gavin and Co. Law Offices. I am not available right now, but if you will leave a message including your name, number and a reason for your call, I will return your call as soon as possible.
He'd never changed it, and had in fact, been fortunate enough to have been holding onto his cellphone after the police had decided there was nothing incriminating on it. It wasn't supposed to have service, what with the bill being unpaid for his months in jail and the battery being dead.
Yet it was working here. Working, and connecting, no less. To some degree.
Or perhaps Edgeworth's words could have been mistaken for the phone being unable to connect for a direct call. Either way. He was unavailable, but Apollo could still leave a message...
As it stood, he was in the City after all. ]

[ It's obvious from the surprise on the lawboy's face that he's happy with the result, and with a bright grin, he nods up to Edgeworth to not only let the other man know that he's heard what the prosecutor had to say, but also to let him know that it's connected. Swallowing and forcing that grin off his face -- Mr. Gavin wouldn't appreciate this being made into a joke, after all -- Apollo left a short message. If nothing else, it'd let Mr. Gavin know they were in the same predicament once Apollo's mentor got back to his phone. ]
Mr. Gavin, is it snowing where you are?

It connected to his voicemail, so.. he's here, right?

[ He wonders if such a thing is possible. When he'd attempted to call Wright when he hadn't been here, he'd gotten a stranger voice message himself that had been a simple "Please leave a message! The person you're trying to reach isn't here!" And he'd known it might have just been a city prank, so he'd hung up.
Just as Apollo begins to leave his message, Edgeworth's own phone beeps with a message of his own from one of his investigators, making him miss the fact that Apollo had just addressed a "Mr. Gavin". When he's done, he looks up as the boy addresses him again and he blinks at him once he asks him his question. ]
Perhaps, if you are fortunate... however oftentimes it so happens that it will connect you to a voicemail, regardless of whether the person is here or not. Did you indeed connect to his voicemail?

First you say it'll connect if they're within the City, and now you're telling me it won't?! That doesn't make any sense, sir!

[ He sighs, then gestures to his phone, then dials a number-- Wright's, actually, and holds the phone out to Apollo. ]
Wait until it connects. Was this the voice message you got?
[ And of course, that annoying voice message that sounded like a prank plays. ]

(Just drop it, Justice.. You won't get anywhere if you continue the conversation like this.)
[ Taking Edgeworth's phone, he waits for the voicemail to pick up. The annoying voice makes Apollo's nose wrinkle, and he shakes his head, handing the phone back to its owner before he pulls out his own device. He hits "send" and then "send" again, re-dialing Kristoph's number as his mind tries to work out exactly what's going on. ]
No, that's not the voicemail I got.. I got this one.
[ Hands his phone over, crossing his arms. ]

And that name... ]
Kristoph Gavin..
[ He repeats the name, surprised to hear it at all, and then hands Apollo his phone back, looking at him curiously. He doesn't know all the details on Kristoph, only that he made Klavier as he is now. He'll need to ask him for all the details, but if things are as Apollo is expressing them to be, then it's likely that Apollo hasn't lost trust in Kristoph Gavin at all.
Which can only mean one thing. This Apollo is from before everything that happened with Kristoph and Klavier occurred, whatever it was. ]
Then he is here.
( ...was I mistaken? If he was really a criminal as Klavier had suggested, wouldn't he not have his phone? )
[ He looks at Apollo curiously, wondering... then chances the question. ]
Not to go off-topic, but... how many cases have you had before arriving here, Mr. Justice?
Reply
... I haven't. Not yet. I was actually supposed to meet with a client today while Mr. Gavin took care of some personal business.

That one had had experience under his belt... this one was... ]
And this... Mr. Gavin of yours... he's your teacher, I assume?
[ Him needing to talk to him, to inform him-- if Apollo was asking for Kristoph Gavin and not Klavier, that was the most likely conclusion. Why else would he be involved with him otherwise, at the point in time that Apollo was suggesting he was from?
And this begged the question... if Kristoph Gavin -was- here... then what point in time was he from?
This was... giving him a headache. ]

Something about this didn't sit right with Apollo.. Why would Edgeworth be asking so many questions about Kristoph? Did he know something about the man Apollo didn't? And if so, how? Apollo wasn't aware that Kristoph had ever had any dealings with the prosecutor. In fact, Apollo had always gotten the impression that Kristoph believed all prosecutors, save one (and who that was, Apollo never knew), were beneath him. Just toys for the city of LA to use. ]
... Does it matter, Mr. Edgeworth? Do you know Mr. Gavin?
