"It is not enough for journalists to see themselves as mere messengers without understanding the hidden agendas of the message and myths around it" - John Pilger
Do you watch his docos on the ABC and SBS? Very enlightening. It amused (and sickened) me when Scott McLelland (US presidential spokesperson) kicked him out of an interview when the questions got too tough and he couldn't deny the facts because Pilger had video evidence of it all.
If I were to be ajournalist, that's the sort of thing I'd do. Of course, I'm not quite as talented and diplomatic as JP, so I'd probably get myself shot along the way because I'm fairly in-your-face :)
I don't think he was critical of Live 8 itself, more so the hype that went around it, but then ignored some far more important and pressing issues, and things that have never made it to the light of day.
Well I have my own opinions of live 8 etc...probably not the ummm majority type opinions...(being very careful and treading lightly on this subject). I just know that certain countries that have loans like Argentina for example...even if the loans were absolved the corruption is so bad that the only people that will reap are the corrupt and the people will not gain anything and remain in poverty. Its kind of like when I was in Indonesia and saw that the CARE packages were not being distributed to the impovershed people and were being sold to the elite. Sigh.... Ok I will shut up now.

I admire a man that can keep his integrity and not sell his soul. That and someone who says what he thinks and feels Australian government be damned.
That is the Journalist I want to be, and the moralistic issues I will pertake.
