He's More Machine Than Man!

"Huh...that finger sure is turning into a sausage. And boy howdy, does it hurt to move." Being my thoughts on Saturday, as I hung out at Ritual Café not having coffee with a guy I chatted with online. "I think I'll go to the urgent care people now." The nearest urgent care was at San Francisco General Hospital ( Read more... )

First, glad you're getting better.

Now, why on earth would you go to a hospital that is operated by a municipality? It's there for people on their last chance with no insurance. The police get rid of people they don't want to deal with by claiming they need psychiatric care and dumping them at SF General. Not to mention the staff are the lowest paid and least qualified. Like their patients, a lot of them are on their last chance as well.

You're absolutely right that our healthcare system needs reform. But it's not like reform is going to raise the quality of healthcare to that of hospitals owned by healthcare corporations. It will reduce it to the caliber of SF General.

Like I knew that SFGH was this horrible?! Really, I didn't. I was just like, "Oh! I'll go there, why not?" I considered going to a different place while I was in the the aptly named waiting room of the ER. But I thought that I'd all ready spent so much time there, I would have to do the same at the other place...*shrug*

I kind of liked the doctors and nurses I had. The doctors seemed okay and very concerned about me (they put me on mega-antibiotics right away). The nurses were pretty caring.

That said, the guy that was nauseous and in pain? He had been in prison for 23 years at some point in his life (I heard him telling a group of training doctors who were interviewing him about his illness). o.O

And for healthcare reform, I have no answers. It may make all hospitals bad, or it may make them better. But it will unfortunately always be an invariant that the rich will stay healthier than the poor.

The guy throwing up was given Dilaudid, probably for pain. Your spelling makes it seem as if some sort of dildo was involved. I am glad your brush with a mad pussy is over.

Getting care is horrible. Meanwhile, this whole building is staffed with people who want to help you. And yet it goes so badly. Imagine how bad the situations must really be.
