You know what's really annoying me today?

When I mention to someone that I've finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I keep getting, "Oh, I'm not going to read it, just tell me how it ends."

I could tell you how it ends, sure. But if you didn't read it, if you weren't part of that adventure, how can you possibly understand it? The ending is ( Read more... )

However, I am awaiting the chance to actually discuss the ending with people who have also finished reading it. Actually, to discuss, as you said, the whole journey.

Dude, that has happened to me dozens of times today, and it's starting to drive me batty. My parents, my bosses, my co-workers, everybody. I was in an airport this morning and saw a man walk up to the book display, pick up a copy, flip to the end and read, and then put it back.

WTF? I feel like...

SPOILER AHEAD

... that people who know nothing about the series wanted to hear that Harry or someone equally important had died, because there seems to be a sick excitement in that. I actually overheard a co-worker who hasn't read any of the books ask someone how it ends, and when she heard he lives, she said sounded disappointed and said, "Oh, I was kinda hoping he would die." What right do you have to hope that? Grrrrr.
