Well, I must confess my disappointment.

Was it really necessary to color another student's hair without their permission? I know there are those of you laughing openly about this, but let's please consider for a moment what life would be like with the shoe on the other foot-- you wouldn't laugh so hard if someone had made you the subject of their ( Read more... )

The fact that someone would actually misuse magic for their own laughs... it is unpleasant. I do hope everything will get work out.

As do I; messing with students in such a way is so bad for morale... The last thing I want is for my entire house to suspect one another of mutiny at any moment...

As much as possible, considering the circumstances. I might find that something else is multicolored tomorrow.

If that happens, you can rest assured something will be done about it. Even if I have to stay up late to monitor the dorms after lights out...

I don't think you were too harsh..we're Prefects for a reason.
And I'm sure they'd rather answer to a peer before they'd want to answer to a teacher.

Well thank you, Elphaba... it's nice to have your vote of confidence.

I just hope I can keep everyone's respect. More than an authority figure, I had hoped my prefectship would prove to the members of my own house that I can be a kind of confidant... or maybe even a mentor, if you will. I get the feeling that a lot of what happens between students is based on a lack of communication with one another, so I'm hoping that if they know someone-- on of their own-- is around to speak to, these kinds of occurrences will lessen in time...

You're quite welcome Justin.

I understand what you mean. Communication is alwlays a problem among people our age I think. Unfortunately not everyone sees authority figures as being there to help. The best we can do is just to be as approachable as possible and hope they can see that.

It's firm but fair Justin. Still such things make me wonder whatever happened to practising the act of 'Do unto others...'.

The golden rule is hardly golden to much of society anymore. I still think a large majority of the school's population could do with a few trips to Sunday morning mass if only to learn about virtues and manners, but I can hardly force such a thing on students; it would be abuse of my power as prefect...

It wouldn't hurt, especially since a lot of these problems seem to stem from someone feeling they need to one up another person for something they did. It's just a repetitive cycle that would be broken if people just let go and made peace with one another.
