Dean doesn't remember wrenching himself away from the side of the Impala. He doesn't remember trying to stand up and failing, crawling over to the spot where everything was normal except for four freezeburnt rings cooling in the grass. He waited for it to open again, for a voice to rise out of it and say, "Sorry, I forgot you. Come on," and he would fall in after it. But nothing like that happened. Nothing happened at all. Bobby was dead. Cas was gone. Sam... all he could hear was Sam's voice. Dean sat there for a long time. It was so long that his legs went to sleep and his face went numb and his arms felt like they'd never move again, and the only thing that was real, the only thing that moved for a very long time, was the water from the sweat dripping down his back. If he waited long enough, his heart would stop. *breaks down and cries. again ( ... )

I thought he was, too, but he's not. It's because at the door his blue jacket is over his tan shirt and at the table his tan jacket is on top but he's really just wearing his tan jacket over a different shirt over a different T-shirt.

*deep breath*

Anyway, it's not. We checked. Obsessively. ;)

Ps - When I read through all the finished parts this morning, I cried about eight million times. Let's hug.

I KNOW. I know. *hands you more Kleenex* Now, here, go read this: Safety Is Relative (Dean & Lisa comment fic)

*isn't Dean wearing exactly the same clothes at the dinner table as he was at the door? i can't tell....*
Dean wouldn't just go there and stay the first night; he's shown us how he has trouble imposing on Lisa and Ben a few too many times for me to believe that of him. So, ehhh, the shirt thing doesn't really matter. One shirt out of three is the same and I think that threw some people off. How different are a guy's shirts, anyway? *shrugs*

Wow, this was epic. Good job, you two. For reals. I had my disappointments with the ep, but you did a great job reminding me of the good stuff that was there too.

Also -- yes, absolutely, LOVE LOVE LOVE Lisa, and what she's willing to give to Dean right now: an open door. one door closes and...

As far as the final five secs of Sam being back goes.... well. I'll save my comments on that until next season, when we know for sure what's going on with him.

It's been a heck of a year, and aren't we all excited about second chances new beginnings and all the possibilities that come with it? Is it Sept yet?

*bounces* Oh, I thought it was a great way for them to leave off! Sam puts out the red light, just like Crowley, now that he's back from his Hell hyper-tour. It's too tempting to jump on the YAY train, so I am TRYING to restrain myself from saying that it's POWERS SAMMY! YAY!!!11!!!eleventy!!! Um.
"Damn" /Crowley voice
LOL

Here, can haz song fer yew, but IDK if it will work in comments. ETA, apparently not. You can haz link:

Well done, my dear. Well done. I love your review of the ep almost as much as the ep- and that's a lot of love.

I have to confess something: When Sam told Dean to go back to Lisa, I was like, "What? He barely knows her. Why would she let him move in? Really, she's just a fantasy that he's built up in his mind."

But now, I am so, so glad for Lisa. He needs her so badly, and she just hugged him and let him live the apple pie life with her, because he needs to have what he wanted, just this once, even if it's not what he thought it would be. Maybe Sam was using good character judgment, because in my head, she and Ben could be really, really good for him (even if I never see Dean becoming a soccer dad).

AMAZING review. Major props to you guys.

But we all build up fantasies! *pouts* LOL
NO RLY.

Here's the deal with Lisa. She moved. She changed neighborhoods, changed her son's school, JUST so that Dean could come back. The first time, even eight years after her son was born, EVERYONE in that neighborhood knew about Dean: knew his name, that he was a drifter, that he was this awesome "best night of my life" man who had this reputation that was obvious from the moment he drove down the street. LISA WAS THE ONE WITH THE FANTASY. And that kinda thing? You can't do that. You can't live that way for long. It eats up the people around you and it can eat you. She changed everything about her way of life because she saw how self-destructive that was. And if I was Ben? I'd be all for it if it meant maybe having Dean back. *hands*

It goes both ways... and THAT'S the awesome part.

Exactly! They both had these built-up fantasies about each other, neither of which could be sustainable, but then at the end of the ep they just hug each other- gaah. I'm probably reading way too much into this, but the way they look at each other in relief and really seem to take comfort in that hug just got to me. I'm totally sold now.

Nope, you're not reading too much into it. I think you've got it just right.

Blacklid and Tahirire--this is one of the most brilliant reviews and meta I've read re: 5x22!
