Somebody mentioned me in relation to a comm I haven't even joined yet and somehow things have gotten muddled. Just... before it gets too out of hand, I wanted to say one thing:

I am NOT anti-Wincest.

I am also not anti-fandom or anti-slash or anti-het or anti-girls or anti-tinhat or anti-yourauntMatilda. I am not a gen nazi. I am equal opportunity ( Read more... )

wtf, we are the prophet chuck, it's where things go, word of the day, writing, wank!, because it's wrong, angels are not so obi wan, blah, what is this faggot tree?, fandom

But just out of curiosity, is anyone else interested in having a community that's focused on canon-type stories? Case files and compliant subtext and Show "reality" as something you don't have to warn for? Is it just me? Show of hands?

*raises hand* I'd be totally interested in that!

There's so many comms doing the same thing. Maybe there's a solution closer than we think...

Given that my strong personal preference is for canon-compliant stories (not to mention that's the only kind I write!), I would definitely be interested in and happy to join such a comm ( ... )

I think I'll just second everything Bardic said! *raises hand and waves*

I'd be all for a canon-compliant comm. Sure, folks would undoubtedly debate whether the comics are "canon" or the tie-in-novels, but still. What Bardic said. There's a comm for everything else, so why not this?

I read a variety of stuff, but everything I write is deliberately designed to fit as if it belonged to the TV series. I'll read fics that deviate from that, but ... honestly, my heart smiles biggest at great case-file fics or fill-in fics, or codas or whatever, that read as if they'd just been air-lifted out of Kripke's brain.

Only better. *G* So yeah. I'm interested! (And I just joined spngenlove, but it seems to be for fic recs, rather than posting one's own fics. I'd love to see a comm that is itself a canon-compliant fic archive/posting place.)

And Sacha who? The guy is freaking looking ... His head is shaped like an egg plant. :-/

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned the new spngenlove community in response to your post. They are still trying to define their interpretation of "gen" but a lot of the discussion mentions 'canon-compliant' as the primary criteria. Might be worth a look for you...

That is actually the one I was referring to.

Sorry! I kind of got the impression you were looking for something similar to what they were doing. Are they doing something that would make it a community that wouldn't meet your needs?

(I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I would just LOVE to be able to get my hands on quality gen fic and would rather not follow multiple communities if I can have my needs met in one place... but maybe you are seeing something that I am not?)

P.S. I really liked your post. I'm someone whose reading taste is 95% gen. I'm not 'anti-' any particular broad categories either, and I find exceptions worth reading in a lot of categories I never thought I would. But I think gen in SPN gets lost and it's what I crave most, so I welcome help in finding buried gen treasure! I hope you don't mind a stranger commenting on your post.

Just about the only stories I read are "canon" stories and there are way too few of them imo(which is why I read so little fanfic). While I wouldn't be writing anything, I'd certainly want to read canon-based fanfic, stuff that could basically "be an episode".

Yes, thank you. And while I know it's out there, we don't seem to have a place that has quite this criteria for when we're just in the mood for these kinds of stories (regardless of our other personal tastes). I think we could rectify that.
