So the story goes something like this. Once upon a time a girl decided she needed to change her life. She gathered up some willpower and affected a 180 on her life. It was excruciating but she did it. At the end of a 5 month period the girl discovers that instead of a happy light at the end of the tunnel there was a dark ominous mountain. The ( Read more... )

Those are quite the assumptions you are making about me. I did ask you to contact me directly, but if you wish to talk like this I suppose we can. I am not willfully ignorant of anything. I have studied Christianity historically, psychologically, archaeologically and, actually. I have done all those things and in addition have done cross cultural and religious studies in a compare and contrast form. In short, I have, am, and will continue to study Jesus Christ, the Bible, and anything relating to thereof for the rest of my life. Now, I've been doing this for about 2 years now as that's how long I've been a Christian. I never had blind faith or faith like a child. I had to research it to come to my conclusions. So, in effect, your scrutinizing me for what you think I have or have not done is not valid. Further, your casting my beloved religion in an unfavorable light doesn't do anything to me except opens a window to say 'hey, let's talk'. I think it's cool that at one point you wanted to join the clergy and I am curious as ( ... )

"...or you are so intimidated by following Jesus that you have decided there is no choice but to turn away from Him."

You believe that there is a theanthropic entity named Jesus who is the son of an actual god, which is what makes such an explanation as what you stated above sound plausible to you. Your Jesus is just another fictitious deity among the world's religions and mythologies. I am no more afraid of Jesus than I am of the Easter Bunny, as both are equally unbelievable to me. Your model of reality is polluted by religious beliefs, which prevents you from understanding psychology and culture enough to come up with better explanations for people's behaviors.

"Why do you say I have an aversion to science?"

I specifically said that you have an "aversion to sciences such as anthropology". Scroll up and you will see that one of your subject lines was "Re: Anthropology...memetic detritus in and of itself", which is blatantly science-averse.

During the time of the Jews' subservience to the Romans, messianic cults were somewhat common in the Jewish communities. Yeshua was also a common Hebraic name at the time. The name Jesus is a linguistic corruption of the Hebraic name Yeshua, due to being translated from Hebrew to Greek, then to Latin, then to English, so around 30 A.D. there was no man named "Jesus" because that name had not yet been devised by sloppy biblical translators. Combining the two facts regarding messianic cults and Hebraic names together, it is entirely plausible that one of those Jewish messianic cults had a leader named Yeshua. Was this cult leader the son of a god? Certainly not. By the time the first book of the New Testament was written, the stories of Yeshua were an oral tradition that had been passed down from generation to generation. Since none of the writers of the New Testament had even been born yet to be able to see or meet their fabled Yeshua/"Jesus", the New Testament has very little credibility ( ... )

Hey sorry for not responding. Work has taken a lot of my time and I suppose not having the internet doesn't help either. At any rate, I have responses to your arguments and will hopefully get them down when I have time. Thanks for your patience.

Not going to have time to respond at the moment, however, I want you to read one piece of information I found. It's a long read but I'm sure you can do it. I'll comment on it soon (hopefully) and on our thoughts. At any rate, read it and let me know what you think. Thanks.
