Paging Doctor House

I've been mainlining House M.D. Season One today and I have made a stunning observation: I never realised Hugh Laurie is so tall before. A lofty 6' 21/2" according to IMDB. I'm guessing that maybe I've never thought of him as being tall before because I usually see him standing next to Stephen Fry, who is a couple of inches taller. Obviously the ( Read more... )

I started watching "House," but had to give up on it. It seemed intriguing which is why I began watching it, but after a few episodes I found it uncomfortable viewing because I just didn't like Hugh Laurie or the character he portrayed. His bedside manner stunk. So I turned off.

I don't mind House as a character: cranky, diffident, looking at an illness as a puzzle to be solved even more than a person to be saved. I just find the approach to diagnosing and treating the illness haphazard. The tendency is to carpet bomb and see what works. The result for me is that all the 'brilliant' doctors look like a bunch of clueless idiots fumbling their way to a solution.

I'm afraid to say that it doesn't get any less repetitive. There's the occasional episode where House is actually wrong and there's the whole Hugh-Laurie-staring-moodily-at-coffee type scene but on the whole, it's pretty much the pattern you describe.

But House, the character, is still fabulous xD;

I finished the first series on Monday night, but I don't think I'll be rushing to buy the second series. I might buy it if I see it really cheap (got Series One for £13).

I really don't like Dr Cameron. She's a silly bint. All that stuff about her refusing to come back to work unless House went on a date with her made me want to bang my head against the wall. Or hers.
