Toby took out his pen and notebook and began to write.

There are a MILLION different moments that jump out at me in this. Toby, blessed, torn, lonely and dark Toby.

Thank you. I needed this. I'm struggling with a ton of writing assignments and I just needed the walk through the mind of a writer.

Can I archive this to my site, when I get around to archiving stuff?

Thank you, I'm really glad you liked it.

Toby, blessed, torn, lonely and dark Toby.
*g* I think I was so worried about writing too much Sam and ignoring Will, that I did end up with quite a Toby-centric fic. Which isn't a problem for me if it's not one for you!

And thanks a lot for the "walk through the mind of a writer" comment. That was what I was aiming for, so I'm glad you thought it worked.

Oh, and archive away :-)

I'm writing this trio as well for the threesome round (in fact, I believe I'm writing for you...is that supposed to be kept a secret? I hope not!) and I would utterly hate you for raising the bar so damn high if this weren't so AMAZING ( ... )

Not only did I melt at the idea of Toby, Sam, and Will having such a ritual, but, as I read this, I held my breath and wished I was able to write something this beautiful.
Well now I'm melting. Thank you so much ♥

OH! I loved this because it says so very, very much without even trying.
That's nice to hear, because I wasn't so sure about my inventing a post-series history when I wasn't asked to. I just have this compulsion...

SO wonderful because I love their romanticism contrasted with Toby's realism about being speechwriters and what that means
That's my favourite thing about Sam/Toby or Sam/Will/Toby :-) There's all that contrast with how they think, and at the same time an understanding that no one else has. Partnership AND the ability to look at writing from all the different viewpoints is the best thing ever!

I have to out myself as a total dork--I'm one of these people who has, like, a whole ritual for the State of the Union, Innauguration, and really any other big political speech where I order food, watch, and hold my breath for those moments that make you wish you were the person who was able to write something that beautiful.

Tell me that you throw popcorn at the tv/radio when Bush is attempting to stumble out his speechwriter's words and we'll share a brain on SOTU nights. :-)

Toby ducked in through the door, wrapped up in a black coat and scarf against DC in January. Not quite used to being able to visit with impunity, though Sam and Will had never been the ones to turn him away.
I still haven't seen Season 6 yet, but the tension between Toby and Will in S5 stems mostly from Toby's animosity, IMO. Will taking up Toby's position in S7 showed a lot of respect, and I can imagine it's always been Toby pushing his friends away. I love the idea of Sam and Will welcoming Toby in from the cold.

After the long pause, Will spoke. "He's okay."

"I know that."

"I'm just saying that if you were concerned about him - he's fine."
My little Sam/Will 'shipper heart is going "d'awwww" right now. Also, I really, really like Toby&Will interaction. I wish we'd gotten more of them as friends. This is EXACTLY how I'd imagine them relating with each other, Sam in the middle.

Will threw popcorn at his head. and The first five minutes were spent mostly in silence. At the beginning of the sixth, Will started heckling.Hee! I love ( ... )

Okay, first, yay for long feedback :-)

This is EXACTLY how I'd imagine them relating with each other, Sam in the middle.
Thank you. I didn't realise until I started writing that while I had written Sam&Will, and Toby&Will, I wasn't as easy about trying the three of them in one room. So I'm glad it was okay, and I guess that's what these challenges are for!

I just don't understand it on a gut level because I'm not like them, I'm not that kind of writer.
Yeah, I'm not sure that I am exactly either. But if you hear Sam talking in The Drop In about speeches, or watch them writing the birthday card, that's how I feel they feel, if that makes sense? I think you would have to, if you're three of ten people in the world :-)

Elsie!!! Yes, she was totally Will's sounding board and his touchstone with sanity :D
...I don't know, I offer to write Will, I throw in Elsie, I make it clear that Sam and Will are either POTUS/VPOTUS or POTUS/COS... do you know what you're doing to my nice simple Sam/Toby OTP??? ;-)

One of the seventeen things in my ( ... )

OK, just read this, and yet again I want to watch ALL of the shows so I understand properly. Even so, it is wondrousful, and so are you.

There’s a certain kind of madness that’s difficult to replicate elsewhere. I suppose the question is whether you would ever want to.
You know what that made me think of? I don't know if you thought of it or not, but.... you just described Oxford, sweetling, described this crazy thing we've been doing for the past 2 and a bit years. Would I replicate it? I don't know. Do I regret it? No. I don't have time for regrets (or I'd spend my whole life doing penance and stuff) and they aren't productive; also, there's good stuff come out of it. I'd never have met you, elseways - and then might not have gotten through mods, I sweat you got me through them with me running through college late at night each time.

What I'm trying to say is I may not understand all of TWW (even if I get a bit), but it's brilliant, and makes sense, on lots of levels.

Also - love you.

Everyone should watch West Wing. Well, S1-4 anyway. And maybe S7. I'm glad you liked it anyway though, I wasn't sure it would make any sense at all without context!

And yeah *sighs* I didn't notice, but that is a bit Oxford-like. I don't regret it either, but I think I've had enough of it! But, like you say, we wouldn't have met otherwise, and that would be of much sadness. I love you too. ♥
