Can anyone tell me offhand at what time (in the day) people found out that Prop 8 passed? Preferably in California, but all I know is that I didn't have it for certain (in GMT) til the next morning, so anywhere in the US will help. I'm trying to find it myself (research, because fanfic is my way to deal with issues of real life importance) but I'm ( Read more... )

it sort of depends on what you mean by "found out," because they didn't really finish officially counting for a bit. so some people (me) were still hoping that in the final vote it would fail, and it's always days before every vote is counted. going back through my own e-mail suggests that people in california were pretty sure it was going to pass by 12:30 am or so california time on november 5th, which was 3:30 am for me (i'm in new york). at midnight new york time on election day (so 9 pm california time) i know that less than 10% of precincts in california were reporting.

let me know if that's way too confusing :).

I imagined that the final count wasn't done until later, but I thought the major networks had called it by early morning on the 5th.

happy to help! (i don't know if this is relevant to you, but in case it's not in international news, the california supreme court heard oral arguments about the constitutionality of proposition 8 today.)
