“You alright, dongsaeng?” Yunho murmured from the doorway, prompting the younger to glance up from where he was working at his desk.
Changmin smiled easily, spinning around in his desk chair for a moment to nod at the older male. “Fine hyung.”
“What are you doing?” The elder tilted his head in question, glad to see that the maknae seemed content enough to smile.
“I thought I’d write Junsu a letter.”
Yunho laughed. “Alright, I guess I’d better leave you to it then. Try not to be too snarky, he’s gone without you for a while now.”
“I won’t be too hard on him.” Changmin promised. “I miss him enough that I’ll be good.”
“Alright dongsaeng… I’ll leave you to it then.” Yunho nodded and slipped back out of the room.
Changmin watched him go, then turned back to his desk. ‘Now… Where was I?’
“They saved the best for last, they saved the best for last!” Junsu cheered as he bounced around the apartment triumphantly, letter in hand.
For the moment he was home alone, as Yoochun had gone to work out with Jaejoong nearly an hour before. He didn’t mind that the ‘SoulMates’ had their bonding time, as he knew that Jaejoong needed it. Likewise he had been out to breakfast with his twin that morning, a quiet one-on-one meal that Yoochun had insisted not be interrupted.
“What in the hell are you doing, bro?” Junho muttered in amusement as he returned from his foray to the kitchen with a cup of tea in hand. “Nice place, by the way.”
“Chunnie takes good care of me.” Junsu agreed, bouncing over the arm of the couch and grinning up at his brother. “I’ve got a letter.”
“If I knew you got so excited about letters, I’d stop emailing you every day and just write you once a week.” Junho teased as he sat down beside his giggling twin. “What’s the big deal?”
“Junnie don’t you DARE!” Junsu shrieked in outrage, slapping his brother’s shoulder as he pouted. “Promise me you won’t! I like hearing from you every day, Ho-ah.”
“Alright, alright.” Junho relented, moving his hot tea out of reach to a place of safety from Junsu’s flailing limbs. Throwing an arm around his sibling, he playfully leaned against Junsu until they were half-draped over the arm of the couch, resting his chin on Junsu’s shoulder. “What’s the big deal, bro?”
Junsu settled, humming in contentment as his brother naturally took over Yoochun’s task of cuddling with him. Then again, once upon a time, it had been Junho’s role… Perhaps that was why he took comfort in the way his twin settled against his back and draped an arm over his hip.
“About three months ago, Jae sort of broke down…” Junsu admitted. “He got tired of the distance between him and Yunho, and decided to do something about it. Since we couldn’t seem to get through any other way, he sent Yunho a letter.”
Junho considered this for a moment, rubbing his jaw along Junsu’s shoulder reassuringly. “That was right after the interview you called me about, wasn’t it?”
Junsu nodded. “Yeah, that one… Anyway, I think we were all prepared for that to be the end of it… For it to never get to him, or Yunho never to answer, or whatever. But Jae had to write and send it, at that moment, that was all that mattered. And then we were all surprised -and glad- because Yunho did write back.”
“I could have told you he would have.” Junho muttered.
Junsu pinched him. “Hush. Anyway, so they exchanged a few more letters, and then Jae sent Changmin a letter. And just a couple days ago, Yoochun got a letter from Yunho.”
“I see now.” Junho grinned. “Your turn, huh? What the hell are you waiting for then? Open it! Or do I need to go be really interested in the view over there?”
Pausing to consider the five stars on the ‘return label’ section of the envelope, Junsu tore the flap of the envelope open and eagerly withdrew the folded paper. “No, I think you better just stay right there.”
“If you start crying, I’m calling Yoochun.” Junho murmured, waving is cellphone in a mocking threat.
“Deal.”
Dear Junsu-hyung,
It’s me, your favorite and most charming dongsaeng! If you were hoping this letter would be from Yunho, I’ll be very mad at you the next time we meet! I hope that this letter finds you well, and Yoochun too since he probably isn’t far away from you. I miss you both so much, hyung.
Yunho just looked in on me, wondering what I’m doing. He’s glad that I’m writing you, and it’s nice to see him smile again. He’s been smiling a lot more since Jaejoong-hyung sent him that first letter. Things have been easier since they started talking again.
I have a few things I want to talk to you and Yoochun-hyung about, but I think that will wait until we can talk on the phone. They would be secrets from Jae-hyung for the moment though, you can’t tell! Yunho doesn’t know either, don’t worry. And it might be best if we got your brother in on it, if he’s not busy.
“Since I know how vengeful he can be, I’m not busy.” Junho chimed in.
Junsu giggled. “Thanks, hyung. I’ll let him know that.”
We have your CDs playing in our apartment every chance we get, it’s nice to have your voice at least in that way. I do miss you laughing and Yoochun playing piano and Jae cooking. I think Yunho-hyung said the same thing, we agree on that at least! Well, that and the fact that neither of us can cook, and that we tend to get on each other’s nerves without you three here…
The apartment is so quiet it’s annoying. I think I did better on my schoolwork when I had to try and ignore all of your noise. I’d ask you to come back so I could be sure, but I think it’s just better if Yunho and I find you instead.
You know we don’t really want to stay, and we don’t want to pretend like we don’t ever talk to you anymore… I hate following all of their rules and doing everything they tell me to and not seeing you anymore. I hate that they want us to sing songs that sound better with five voices than two. I hate so many things now. I know you did what was best for you three and Yunho did what was best for us all while I did what was best for me… But it doesn’t feel like it, most days.
I miss you, hyung. There’s not much else to say but that we miss you three so much. I hate that you’re not around. How long has it been since I’ve been able to follow my religion, hmm? I’m still the best follower of Xiahnism, you know that!
I hope you’re smiling now.
Well, I guess I better go. I hope we’ll be able to talk soon. I miss you, hyung, and I love you. Take care of yourself and remember to eat and rest!
Your Dongsaeng,
~Minnie-ah.
Junho smiled, hugging his twin when he heard Junsu sniffle. “He loves you very much, you know.”
“I know… And I miss him so much.” Junsu sighed. “I miss having my dongsaeng around. I miss him being bossy and snarky and tall… I even miss Jae spoiling him like mad and him gloating about it to Yunho behind Jae’s back…”
“Well, it sounds like he has a few ideas that will fix that.” Junho pointed out. “So try to keep it together until then, alright?”
“I’ve made it this long, haven’t I?”
“I’m sure your boyfriend helped with that… But since I hear him now, I don’t think I’ll worry too much.”
“Ya! Get your paws off of my dolphin!” Yoochun demanded as he closed the door behind him and shouted at Junho with mock rage. “Twin or not, that’s mine!”
“What is he going to do when he has to share you with Changmin?” Junho muttered as he obediently slid to the other side of the couch.
Between giggles, Junsu managed to sit up, smiling at his boyfriend. “The same thing we all did when Minnie was mad… Run and hide behind Jaejoong.”
“Jaejoong in an apron.” Yoochun corrected as he moved into the room and curled himself around Junsu. “Nothing stops Changmin like the promise of good food.”
“Su-ah got a letter from your dongsaeng.” Junho explained, pointing at the paper. “He’s planning something.”
“It’s Min-ah.” Yoochun shrugged. “He’s always planning something. Once you get past the absolute terror of the idea, you just go along with it.”
“Have I told you that I find that rather frightening?” Junho muttered.
“You’re not the first, bro.” Junsu grinned. “And you won’t be the last. It’s part of Min’s charm.”
Junho gave Junsu a look that he well-deserved, and then glanced at Yoochun in some sort of mute appeal.
In reply the pianist shrugged. “That’s what he keeps telling me.”
“You don’t believe him either?”
“Not a word. But then, I did live with Min-ah for years. I know better.”
“How can you be so mean about our Minnie-ah!?” Junsu demanded.
“Easily.” Yoochun muttered. “It isn’t mean if it’s the truth.”
