“Me first!” The younger giggled, stealing a quick kiss as he playfully bounced past his boyfriend as their front door opened.
Yoochun smiled as Junsu spilled into the apartment ahead of him, a few shopping bags tumbling to the floor in his enthusiasm. Junsu’s jacket and hat went flying, catching on the look-through from the hallway into the living area. The jacket hit the stack of mail Yoochun had placed on the low wall when they’d left that morning, scattering it over the couch on the other side.
“Easy Su-ah.” Yoochun muttered with affection, sweeping up some of the bags and wrapping an arm around his boyfriend. “Come here baby! You’re going to hit a wall or something.”
“Greasy!” Junsu teased, bolting out of reach and into the living room.
Yoochun grinned. “You love it.”
In the living room Junsu flopped down into a chair with his bags as Yoochun moved to the couch. “Maaaaaybe.”
With an affectionate smile for the still-giggling Junsu, Yoochun set his bags aside and gathered up the mail. The last envelope he reached for was marked with an interesting return address, a simple ‘W’ etching with stars at each point.
“Yunho.”
Yoochun wasn’t even aware he’d breathed the name until Junsu touched his shoulder, a reassuring brush.
Concern filled his tone as he gently curled his hand around his boyfriend’s arm. “Chun-ah?”
“Yunho sent me a letter.” Yoochun glanced up, his eyes wide.
Junsu immediately relaxed, glad it was surprise and not suddenly bad news. He rather doubted that something from Yunho would be bad, after all, he and Jae were conversing regularly as far as Junsu knew.
“Su-ah… Yunho sent me a letter.” Yoochun repeated again, weakly.
“Well you didn’t think Jae was the only one he missed.” Junsu teased gently, kissing his cheek. “How could he not miss us? Silly. I’m going to make tea, let me know if you need anything.”
Yoochun nodded, turning his attention back to the envelope. He knew Jaejoong had been sending letters to Yunho, and one to Changmin as well, but hadn’t exactly expected one of his own. Hands shaking slightly with nerves, he tore the envelope open and withdrew the letter itself.
Yoochun-ah,
This is the sixth draft of this letter, the others are laying all over my room… I admit that I’m not sure how to begin. I would say hello, because that’s the proper way to start something like this, but it just doesn’t cover everything that has happened. ‘I miss you’ isn’t any better because of course I do, ‘I hope you’re well’ seems like something a stranger would say… Not a brother.
Hello, I do hope you’re well, and I do miss you.
I miss you playing piano at four in the morning after a cigarette with Jae. I miss you running through lyrics with me. I miss us making up stupid raps and watching television together. I miss your Junsu too, and everything that goes with having a dolphin in the apartment. It’s too quiet without the piano playing at all hours of the night, without a dolphin giggling at the top of his lungs.
I miss our family, more than anything. I miss the way it felt to be five even if we were all doing different things on an afternoon off. I miss the power in our reflection when the five of us were dancing. I miss the feeling of owning a stage with my brothers, of knowing we gave everything in our hearts to those joining us for that night, for that concert. I can’t give everything now, with only Changmin to help me. The message isn’t as strong, isn’t heard as loudly, with only two voices to say it.
Thankfully the silence speaks just as loudly as we do… And thankfully Cassiopeia have always been the very best of listeners.
I’m sorry it has taken me so long to write, I’m sorry that things happned the way they did… I know it was important, for Changmin and for you three, in many ways… Because you know SM’s wrath would be even worse if we all had left. I can’t say what will happen in the future, but I do think it is important that we face it together as five, rather than three and two.
Until I can, please watch over my Boo. Take care of yourself, and that dolphin of yours as well.
Love, Yunho
Junsu smiled faintly as he returned to the living room to find a teary-eyed Yoochun hugging one of the decorative pillows usually scattered around the room. Setting the teacups he was carrying down on the coffee table, he shuffled around and settled beside his boyfriend.
“Chun-ah?” He murmured as he snuggled close to the older male, humming contentedly when Yoochun leaned sideways against the arm of the couch and dragged Junsu to lay down half on top of him.
“I love you, Su-ah.” Yoochun murmured, running a hand through Junsu’s buttercup colored hair. “So much.”
Junsu blinked in surprise, snuggling closer. “I love you too… Are you alright?”
“Just waiting, Su… I’m just waiting.”
He considered that for a moment, then smiled sweetly. “Can I read it?”
“Sure thing, baby.”
“I’m jealous… I haven’t gotten a letter yet.” Junsu admitted as he reached for the paper.
Yoochun’s grip tightened on his boyfriend, tone reassuring. “I’m sure you’re next, baby.”
Again Junsu considered, and then beamed widely. “Well, as long as they save the best for last.”
Yoochun pulled his boyfriend into his lap and laughed, pressing his face against the curve of Junsu’s neck. “Of course they did, baby. Of course they saved the best for last.”
