I thought The Prestige was a bit flawed, it could have been soo good but some dodgy storytelling it went on waaaay too long and spent far too long explaining when it should have just left the audience to figure it out.

And Pan's Labyrynth - gah! I started watching the Oscars but I had to switch when they kept playing the pan's lab theme and I thought i was going to cry! So so sad, but again a little bit too long.

I'm a whinger, what can I say!

And congrats, haha, oh too bad - too all of the above (pick which is applicable :-p)

Someone else was complaining to me about the Prestige for exactly those reasons - the end did drag on a little bit, but all the explaining and so forth didn't really bother me, even though I had figured it out some time before).

I didn't find Pan's Labyrinth too long at all, though! I do have a tendency to feel that the fairies are just in the girl's imagination, and that the ending is actually thus quite sad though.

I really enjoyed The Prestige. I think the premise of the tragic glass case incident (not giving away too much for anyone who hasn't seen it) was a bit silly (hello? Backup plan, anyone? Is a massive axe really your best option here?), but everything else I enjoyed. This movie was more about the journey than anything else - two men becoming consumed by their obsession to be better than the other. I was surprised at how many people seemed to miss this. There were a lot of calls of "SIGH, I was too smart for this film, I guessed it like FIVE MINUTES into it" (BTW this comment isn't aimed at you, Tim!) which tells me that these people have an attention span of approximately ten minutes, after which if there isn't an explosion it's just too boring. Seriously, they TELL you right at the start where the movie is headed! (OK so they don't tell you the other 'twists' of each character's special secret ( ... )

Thank you for the message, dearest sock.

But yeah, you're right, it was less about the twists and more about the journey and all that stuff.
