I live in a Gothic novel (so I must eventually become a damsel in distress?)

I have joked about this, citing the spider webs that appear overnight in the corners of my living room and the swaths that festoon the basement I so rarely enter -- it's got a dirt floor, a low ceiling, and floods whenever it rains for several days straight, so I don't keep anything down there anyway. So why pay the cellar any attention? I only ( Read more... )

OK. So we're back from MA and LI, by which I mean 'crashing in NJ' until we leave again.

So much work to do, not done. I fool myself by thinking that I will do a little work tonight, but this is a joke.

No, no more rabies than any other animal, really! But apparently there is some kind of disease going around among bats, one of the symptoms of which is a sort of white discharge from the nose and mouth (which looks a lot like rabies, I suppose). The person who told me about this wanted to know if my Sadako-bat might have had this disease, if it was crawling around and then being confused -- but I was too busy cowering in fear to take a close look at its face as it zipped past ( ... )

I know that bats don't carry rabies more than others (did you know that rats don't carry rabies at all? How odd), but the real danger with bats is that if they bite you when you're asleep, you won't know,a nd thus don't get treated in time with the vaccine *___* Thank you, Ira Glass, for being wigged out about this, and thus wigging me out in a second-hand way DDD ( ... )

Hmm, one of my students told me that a friend had a bat incident the same night I did. Is it an underground movement? Bats trying to take over the world, one house at a time? I guess i missed that "This American Life." Like I miss most of them, honestly. I am given the impression from biologist friends that the bat wouldn't bite unless threatened, so why would the bat be biting people who are asleep? Well, there was no biting, and I always sleep with my door shut anyway.

Ashgate, hmmm. I think a UP is probably the way to go. Or a Brewer imprint. While Ashgate is legit, you might have to expend energy explaining that, whereas a UP automatically looks good. I guess? I'm sure Chris will get back to you, but she's in the middle of moving across the continent, so give her some time. (I say even as I am being impatient about Patty getting back on my redraft)

Listening to the new Arashi -- Jun actually sounds pleasant in a lot of it! And Nino's controlling the vibrato! It's pretty.
