Juvenile Detective Fluff 2 -- Short Shorts with Deep Pockets

Dec 09, 2008 20:41

The first two words in the CLAMP School Detectives anime are “Tokyo Tower.” I find this not at all surprising, given the prominence of (and constant threats to) that edifice in the CLAMP universe.

But really, this show is more about fluff -- just look at the hair.

Oh lord. Those school uniforms. >_< Now there's a crime!

Also, I worry about the school ducks. Those shadows look highly symbolic. >_<

I am going to have to check those books out ^_^ They look hilarious.

Bah. I have to type up that final exam tomorrow morning :P

These certainly aren't the worst school uniforms ever in CLAMP -- remember Angelic Layer? But they do look just a bit obscene with the long, long legs... And I think it is a crime to be forced to wear shorts during the winter.

Those shadows look highly symbolic.

It's CLAMP -- everything is highly symbolic, right? Though this one is really quite silly for CLAMP. Full of sight gags. And there's no way anyone could really believe these kids are in elementary school -- they're like short, high-pitched thirty-somethings.

But the Nancy Clue mysteries are awesome. Everyone turns out to be gay, except for villains. And yet they're still all about earnestness and chums. The style is amazingly on. I learned that she's also got James Bond spoofs, but I've only read one of the Bond novels (a million years ago), so I'm not sure it that kind of parody would go over as well for me ( ... )

That's a great email&hearts

I live for those moments. I have colleagues who are telling me that they're hearing good things from my students--including one of the Chaucer kids apparently *___* I hate to think that he's blaming Chaucer and not the class for the horribleness ^^" And one of my good ones told me that the survey had been one of his favorite classes here &hearts Sadly, he is not done--taking the exam as we speak).

I will cling to those moments when I get my evals >_<

Got lectured at lunch by several people on how I need to move this summer because of the mugger . . . not sure what to do with that--not so fond of the place, but a) built in shelves&hearts b) inertia and expense and c) convincing the Boy. I think it's unlikely.

Boy is still sick :( He went to work today, and they sent him right back home >_< He says he feels better . . . I am tempted to ask for a ride home . . . but . . . he's sick and I'm not sure I'm that lazy . . . it's just . .. the temp dropped 40 degrees since yesterday >_< wah ( ... )

Mood Boy and a couple others have made appointments for tomorrow. Here's hoping all will be noncombative and perhaps actually productive in terms of getting them to understand what it means to have an argument...

Lunch with Tomas today, randomly. Rather, I ate and he talked to me. He's 'getting back on track' -- which apparently means getting a second BA? This time in English? Because he wants to work on writing and critical thinking. Well, okay. His parents are willing to indulge this and pay for their 24-year-old only child to go back to school (and hopefully finish up the first degree -- he still hasn't finished his independent major project, the slacker).

Supposedly there are huge waitlists for all the spring classes that fill early lit hist requirements. I am hoping they might open an additional section of the survey and need some deserving brand new PhD to teach it...
