Juvenile Detective Fluff 2 -- Short Shorts with Deep Pockets

Dec 09, 2008 20:41

The first two words in the CLAMP School Detectives anime are “Tokyo Tower.” I find this not at all surprising, given the prominence of (and constant threats to) that edifice in the CLAMP universe.

But really, this show is more about fluff -- just look at the hair.

That's a great email&hearts

I live for those moments. I have colleagues who are telling me that they're hearing good things from my students--including one of the Chaucer kids apparently *___* I hate to think that he's blaming Chaucer and not the class for the horribleness ^^" And one of my good ones told me that the survey had been one of his favorite classes here &hearts Sadly, he is not done--taking the exam as we speak).

I will cling to those moments when I get my evals >_<

Got lectured at lunch by several people on how I need to move this summer because of the mugger . . . not sure what to do with that--not so fond of the place, but a) built in shelves&hearts b) inertia and expense and c) convincing the Boy. I think it's unlikely.

Boy is still sick :( He went to work today, and they sent him right back home >_< He says he feels better . . . I am tempted to ask for a ride home . . . but . . . he's sick and I'm not sure I'm that lazy . . . it's just . .. the temp dropped 40 degrees since yesterday >_< wah!

and I like that Clamp lightened up in thi s series . . . but shorts for winter uniforms seems inhuman to me . . .

I have an exam in . . . to grade now, or . . . ^_~

Mood Boy and a couple others have made appointments for tomorrow. Here's hoping all will be noncombative and perhaps actually productive in terms of getting them to understand what it means to have an argument...

Lunch with Tomas today, randomly. Rather, I ate and he talked to me. He's 'getting back on track' -- which apparently means getting a second BA? This time in English? Because he wants to work on writing and critical thinking. Well, okay. His parents are willing to indulge this and pay for their 24-year-old only child to go back to school (and hopefully finish up the first degree -- he still hasn't finished his independent major project, the slacker).

Supposedly there are huge waitlists for all the spring classes that fill early lit hist requirements. I am hoping they might open an additional section of the survey and need some deserving brand new PhD to teach it...

*shakes head*

Moodboy :P

I had Pedantic Whiner (the one who numbered the paper comments for his 'rebuttal') take his final today. :P Glad that's over. Also glad he doesn't get it back since it's a final. good lord, the hassle. Tomorrow the deluge. I should be receiving about 250 pages of grading. *weeps*

Good luck getting a survey \o/ I'm looking at how to change mine. IU had students write which works they really would want to keep/not keep as their last final question, and several of them have already cited the Chaucer. As if. I suppose I could do less . . . but we're only doing the GP and Miller's Tale already *___* I might use a different tale next time . . .

dude, is Tomas following the Wout program of study?

not feeling well. horrid sinus headaches and congestion :P drugs may be called for. Also, YTM.

YTM cures all!

Mood Boy needs to learn email etiquette. Just sent me another one-liner + attachment: "Here's what I have so far." When did I offer to read his paper over email? When did we become friendly enough that I don't require some kind of salutation or signature? I don't feel like reading his paper -- and anyway, since it's a docx file, I'll have to trudge in to campus to read it. Well, I guess I was going to go to the campus library tomorrow anyway...

I did the WoB's Tale instead of the Miller's -- I had some stuff going on with the romance genre and the hero who has to leave the centralized court and go out into the wider world in order to achieve something. Plus the Wife is fun, right? And she followed nicely on the Life of St Christine, which I had inserted (not in the Norton).

Aaargh. Why is it that they can't figure out that basic manners still apply, even over a computer? Also, when you essentially want your teacher to do you a favor, maybe rudeness isn't the answer?

Hmmm . . . . I could see how the wife would be awesome, especially after SGGK . . . hadn't considered that . . . hmmm . . .

YTM is lovely. Remote was fun, though a little frustrating for me at the end. Still dopey. Still sick. Looking up plushie patterns. don't get your hopes up though. my 3-D imaging skills are crap. And . . . my sewing isn't much better. You remember the Bamf doll . . . and it was much less complicated . . . :P

interesting thought though. I'm so not doing it, but keep looking up patterns anyway. Why do I do this crap to myself? It's just that the idea of a bitchy yellow Nino plushie is so hard to resist . . .

Please don't try too earnestly to make a fuzzy yellow Nino plushie. Cuz it would be really hard. And if you succeeded, one might want to cuddle it, and then all would be lost!

And really, unless you could figure a way for it to actually bitch at the world, would it be worth it?

I still seem not to have come up with a defense speech. I suck a lot. Maybe I'll leave the house a little later and lock myself up at the coffee shop to think about it. Though I imagine it will be pretty full right before finals start, since it's one of the few places in this town that's open late on Sunday nights.

re: defense speech . . . my impression is that what they want is a sort of "what I'm doing and the rationale behind my critical intervention" spiel. Perhaps partially cribbed from job talk and intro stuff.

I think that's all they want--10 min tops?

Good luck!!

I have been told also to talk about how the project developed and where it's going -- to preempt their questions about 'why didn't you..."

But I wasn't planning on anything long.

I have also been told to try to get them talking to each other and see if they might forget about me. ^_^'

I've heard of this, but . . . it didn't happen in mine ^^"

YAY! I got funding for the summer!! And I think I thought of a paper abstract either for next Kzoo or for anything that fits it on the CFPs. I want to get lots done this summer so that I can try to get a head start on tenure-esque things :P

Also, I need to do more reading. I haven't been keeping up with journals at all.

I fail at professionalism >_< fail fail fail.

home and hot chocolate for me. Also . . . ginger apple cider? saw it in the store and bought it. dunno. I think I will pick up some cinnamon sticks and see what happens when I heat it up ^_^
