Must See Movie Lists

What freaking idiots come up with these lists of "must see movies"? I went down a list of 1000 movies that you have to see, divided by decade, and chose some that I had managed to miss from each decade since film began. Some of them that I have missed have been great, especially the old ones; the silent version of Phantom of the Opera was awesome ( Read more... )

David Lynch has his own holiday in Cambridge, MA. He's a goddamn genius, but he definitely doesn't make a lot of sense. The way he can set a tone and a mood in a film is really amazing. Having seen several of his movies (Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Inland Empire) and noticing the themes that connect them to each other, I feel pretty confident in saying that they're not supposed to make narrative sense, but they evoke powerful feelings. If you want to see what he can do with a story that has a more concrete plot, you should watch the first season of Twin Peaks. The second season gets out of control wacky, though (but I watched it anyway, because I wanted to see what happened ( ... )

I guess I'm just not intellectual enough for Lynch. He bores me. I never watched Twin Peaks because it was boring. Blue Velvet was boring. I tend to stay away from movies that I don't enjoy.
