Must See Movie Lists

What freaking idiots come up with these lists of "must see movies"? I went down a list of 1000 movies that you have to see, divided by decade, and chose some that I had managed to miss from each decade since film began. Some of them that I have missed have been great, especially the old ones; the silent version of Phantom of the Opera was awesome for certain. Since I've gotten closer to the present, however, it seems that the quality has deteriorated. For example: I had managed to avoid seeing My Own Private Idaho until about a month or so ago. I could have gone the rest of  my life without seeing it and not have missed a damned thing, I guarantee it. But I understood the movie. Keanu Reeves is a poor little rich kid whose parents don't "get" him so he runs away to become a prostitute in Portland with a group of boys who follow a kind of gay modern day Fagin, meets and kind of has a love affair with River Phoenix and tries to help him find his mother. Along the way he meets a girl, falls in love for real and decides to conform to society and his parents wishes and goes straight (in both meanings of the word), then forsakes his poor street friends. I got it. It was ridiculously overacted and there was absolutely no believability, but I got it. Tonight I watched Mulholland Drive and all I can say is: what the hell? How many psychadelic drugs is David Lynch on? It was boring, incomprehensible and seemed to just be a vehicle to get hot girl on girl action onto the big screen yet again. I was unimpressed to say the least. I'm definitely going to remove any other Lynch movies that may be on my list and will avoid him in the theater in future. If anyone actually understood that movie, could you please enlighten me? I'm gonna go watch a nice wholesome Librarian movie, Noah Wyle never fails to entertain me without annoying and frustrating me. And my kids can watch with me.
