So spring break is night upon me (after today's class and clinicals Monday since that kind of counts) and I decided that its been awhile since I wrote something so I should like totally write dudes. Gnarly ( Read more... )

I mean, for some fics I can sit there and plan a mile of it; only problem is, *if* I start (which isn't that common) I never seem to finish.
Don't get me wrong, planning fics is great fun and I love making a good back-story, I'm just not a good finisher lol

Hopefully if I just write cold turkey I'll actually FINISH a multichapter fic lol Yay for goals!

Well, when it comes to me writing long fics, I usually put some of them on hold since I encounter writer's block a lot. Personally, I just plan out as much of the story as possible and then write as much as I can, but it depends on what you're more comfortable with when you're writing long fics.

Blahhhhhh
Right now I'm just experimenting. Like art, there are different ways to approach and portray an idea so I want to verse myself in something new.
That and actually finish something

Go with the fresh plot bunny if that's the one that excites you. Writing should be fun, and be a blend of spontaneity and planning.

I usually have the key scenes in my head when I approach any fic, long or short. I don't require an outline unless it's over 20k because the plots aren't that complicated. Karma didn't start with an outline, but I didn't realize how long it would be and how complex. By chapter two an outline was created, and it was revised multiple times. Think I had 23 pages of notes. I really needed it to keep track of the timeline and use it as a checklist so not to miss optimum moments for inserting clues in order for the the story to tie up at the end. Also, I used it to jot down dialog and character motivations for later chapters.

Oh yeah, and can you guys catch me up on House? What happened last ep that's dividing the fandom down the middle?--Not sure what to tell you or how much you want to be spoiled. The episode had a nice old school feeling until the last scene, and then House declared his love for Cuddy in a ( ... )

I don't care for spoilers since I lack the time and desire to watch the recent episodes. (nice choice of icon btw lol)

You make a good point there, longer stories should, for the most part, write themselves with some general direction from you here or there, not forced.

I wrote a House AU-sample tray one time and I wanted to try doing something like that for HIMYM. Generally a compilation of short stories that have a sliver of a thread connecting them, who knows how long that will take :/

The thing is, if its multi-chaptered how should I end a chapter? Ending it randomly would bother me, so maybe the fainted idea of a plot point perhaps, or cliffhanger here or there lol

Did you ever write anything or want to write something that was the most over-done concept ever? How did you get over that?

Thanks for all the help :)

--Ending it is up to you. You know what you have in mind. Generally, an ending has to be organic to the story or the theme you are trying to express. Listen to your characters or let the plot naturally unfold to the conclusion. If you are suddenly inspired to do a twist ending, fine. It's still the fic "telling" you to.

May I offer a little advice? --I see in other comments you mention about finishing fics. I think it would really benefit you to make that a goal, even if means narrowing the scope of your project. Take a few notes on your current ideas and work on those first. Don't look at the forest, look at the trees.

Did you ever write anything or want to write something that was the most over-done concept ever? How did you get over that?--Over-done as everybody else has done it? I suppose that's why I like AUs, so I don't repeat what everybody ( ... )
