House 3.18, or, Plague on a Plane

Apr 10, 2007 22:28

More evidence that bad previews make for good episodes. Although in this case, it was more a lowering-of-expectations deal. Like House always talks about. When you expect nothing and you get a very little bit, you're happy.

Five things about tonight’s episode. )

You thought the preview for this week's ep was bad? LOL, we can't even agree on that! I admit that I was mildly disappointed that the "plague on a plane" didn't go anywhere more interesting than that, but... Wilson! In blue! Or, rather, WILSON! IN BLUE! AND SCRUBS! DOING MANY DOCTOR THINGS QUITE CONVINCINGLY! Lots of forearms and hands and looks and duckling leadership. How could this not be a fun ep ( ... )

...and that we finally have confirmation that normally he’s called James, or at least introduces himself to non-patients as such.

Didn't we get that ages ago from Stacy? In, like ... Spin? I think it was Spin... Could be wrong on the exact episode, but it was the beginning of the second season, anyway. Obviously, since Stacy wasn't there anymore after the beginning of the second season. D: I still miss her. Woe.

Why they didn’t tell the skull-drilling team to hold off a few more minutes while they searched the home again for proof of their perfectly plausible theory, I do not know...

I thought it was because Cameron seemed to have no idea wtf Chase was talking about when he was like, "THE BOWL WAS FULL." And he was so excited at the sudden epiphany that he didn't explain it to her or anyone else and just ran off to do his thing. Silly Aussie.

In which case, irresponsible. If he thought the drilling could kill the patient, he should've told them he wanted to search the house one more time for the cause of a sick/dead cat.

Yes, Stacy called him James, but that's all we had -- it could've been a personality quirk, Stacy being formal like House is joke-y with "Jimmy." Having Wilson call himself James when not stating his full name made me feel much more confident that that's how most people/friends/colleagues/etc. refer to him.

Did he know what she was, and if so, is he that lonely? Did he just think she was pretty and was moved when she cared for someone she’d just met?

I think he didn't know. I think he thinks she's a professional woman (but not that oldest-profession) who actually just displays an extraordinary amount of compassion for someone she doesn't actually know. And the fact that she's gorgeous certainly helped.

Good episode. Probably enjoyed this one more than any others I've seen this season.

Notice how House and Wilson still haven't spoken, for a couple weeks, at least.

Yes, it's sad, looking at the downward spiral of their friendship from the start of the series (and projected before then) till now, with this almost complete break in effective communication and affection.

Probably enjoyed this one more than any others I've seen this season.

Really? More than, say, "Son of Coma Guy"? (trotting that one out as it's my personal favorite) What did it for you?

Yes, I had difficulty being able to enjoy "Son of Coma Guy" just because of how the season was going, I guess. The whole issue of Wilson's controlling behavior in episode 2 was still overwhelming my ability to just take what was offered on screen.

So it isn't that "Airborne" was better--just that it fit what I was looking for at this stage.

Cross-commenting! Heh.

1. Yes, Diamond did have that "very nasty" smile and not too much characterization, but they looked similar, and Wilson had kind of the same polite-ish "guh" reaction to both of them, and I assume from her "sell" to Fran that Robin also gives really really really good paid sex. I assume.

2. Hee. Too true. But that honeymoon period must be worth something.

5. Thanks. I loved your point about how the little boy mirroring Chase provided the essential clue to House solving the case.

Fellowships are predetermined amounts of time, so unless Chase "quits," it's not a matter of him needing to work up the energy to go. (Also, aren't doctors supposed to be super-ambitious and ready to get going in their careers? Though it is laid-back Chase we're talking about.) They haven't said how long the ducklings' fellowships are -- four years, I guess, if Chase is still there -- and four is pretty much the max, from what I understand, so if he's going to stick around for another season, either he's going to be at PPTH in ( ... )

Yes, exactly. Either they can say "it's a six-year fellowship, because it's a unique specialty and we've decided it takes six years to master," or they can put Chase in another department, or in a non-fellowship position within Diagnostics. Whatever they do, they'd better explain it soon.
