More Medication/Sleep HELPS!

I just had a doctor's appointment on Friday, and got my perscription up to two pills of Depakote a day. I'm not sure what the dosage is, but the things are like ostrich eggs. I haven't noticed a change yet, since it's only been two days. What I have noticed makes a difference though, is sleep ( Read more... )

hey yes I my experience sleep is a major help. when i was younger and more manic i suppose i could stay up for days with little or no sleep. but now i gotta get sleep or man i go into bitch mode I'm crankly and irritable and i get cold and can never get warm, the sooner or later with that schedule I'm bound to pull an all nighter and then bam manic roller coaster. UGH! I hate it! I'm a night owl (prolly because of always having a weird ass sleep schedule) so i think EVERYTHING should be open 24/7, but now that I'm medicated I sleep every night weather i want to or not. Yuck I didn't like depakote I was on the ER rx and it made me so like I was underwater and stuff. But I'm glad it works for some. keep in touch and stuff you sound alot like me....maybe i'll learn something. :-)

sleep is really important to everyone, but especially so when you are bipolar. too little or too much sleep can start you cycling out of control. i am glad you have set up a schedule for yourself, really try to stick to it. i've done it for myself and noticed a really big difference in things also. only problem now is that my night meds are too sedating and i have a hard time getting up in the morning. i am working on this problem with my doc right now trying to decrease the most sedating med and maybe even get rid of it(trazodone) and see if i can sleep on my own.
i wish you luck in making a decision to go back to school or not. i don't know anything about you so i can't comment any more about the situation. but, do the right thing for you.

I take trazodone to sleep as well.. and I can only take a little for the reason you listed.. morning grogginess. It's a pain.

Wow, sleep is really important, I am starting to get 'normal' sleep cycles back too. Or more normal. I think if my dose of effexor can be raised I will loose the want to sleep in the middle of the day feelings. That would be a first in two years.
