Depakote

So I learned from my therapist today that he's going to strongly urge the doctor to prescribe depakote, since Lithium and Lamictal haven't worked well for me. He told me what it's like but I want first hand accounts from people who have actually taken it. So what do you guys think of it before i just go take another pill that might screw with me or ( Read more... )

It's different for everyone, of course, but I had a horrible experience with Depakote. It gave me very bad hand tremors and I was hungry ALL THE TIME; as in, I'd eat a huge meal and feel starving afterwards. I gained a lot of weight on the drug, too, that I'm still trying to lose.
I don't mean to scare you, though. Some people are fine on it.

It helped me for a while, but then all my hair started falling out. Really badly. Not "breakage" like my PDOC said, from the root.

Also Depakote may be linked to PCOS. So I dunno about women taking it.

My hands were very shaky and I gained 122lbs in 4 months.

It has worked well for me the only side effect I have are tremors but Id rather be stable.

thanks seems to me my therapistneglected to mention those kinds of side effects
