meds and feeling ill

Two weeks ago in the hospital they put me on 1mg of risperdal twice a day, 300 mg lithium in the am and 600 mg in the pm, and 50 mg trazodone for sleep. I've started getting headaches again (I'm also being treated, up until now successfully, for migraines).  This week it has gotten really bad: nausea, constant headache, shaking, weakness ( Read more... )

This.

Sounds like you might have a bit of lithium toxicity. You almost have to drink enough water to make you feel sick to not get dehydrated whenever you start lithium.

I second (or third) this.

When you're on lithium you should be drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day. I'm serious.

Some days I feel like I'm drowning or sloshy. But you have to do it or else you'll have lithium toxicity. Also you can look into your pdoc and see about adjusting your dose or when you take it. I take extended release all at once at night so I don't have to deal with the nausea in the middle of the night (usually). Sometimes it wakes me up at 3 am and I puke my guts out. But if you're taking the straight lithium (which seems like it due to the dosing), sometimes switching to the extended release makes a huge difference.

Good luck!
