does anyone else have terrible obsessive thoughts ALL the time? I constantly have obsessive thoughts about getting pregnant, car crashes, death of family members and myself, going to the hospital...I hate this...hopefully I'm not alone.

i get that way and it can spiral into really believing the weird things im obsessing about. i take zyprexa on an as needed basis for it and it works really well.

I also have TONS of obsessive thoughts. I even wondered if I have OCD or something but I don't think I really fit that disorder. I worry about the same things, car crashes, injury/death of family members, and stuff like my house burning down. It's really tough to deal with.

You'd be amazed what fits obsessive compulsive disorder; you don't have to be as extreme as Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets", either.

I'd bring this up with a therapist who can then analyze the issue and prescribe the correct medication for it. Constantly getting stuck in a 'bad movie loop' about health issues, car issues, did I lock the house, will the house burn down all qualify as obsessive thoughts.

no, you're not alone.

it's like you are consumed with the thoughts. at least that's how it is for me.

unfortunately i don't have any advice on how to fight it.

what do you do when you are overcome with obsessive thoughts? maybe you've tried something i haven't.

my therapist and i talked about it, and she told me to live in the moment...instead of thinking of the what if's, think of the what is. For example...what if my dad gets in a car crash and dies? instead, What is my dad doing right now? How is he? Is he okay? What is going on in his life?

it sort of works. but the obsessive thoughts just overcome me most of the time...and the dreams are even worse. *sigh*

wow, that's brilliant, i never thought of it like that. while not a cure all (as you say, the thoughts overcome), but definitely a switch in attitude.

thank you! =}

i have found with troublesome dreams, what helps me is to have a movie on in my room (or music). but i carefully pick the movies (the fifth element is my favorite, good soundtrack, nothing traumatizing) so that if they influence my dreams, it's a happy sort of thing. i've found my bad dreams have dropped off radically since i started doing this.

I sleep with the TV on too! I have gotten into the habit of having the TV on, because I sleep alone and I get lonely. Pathetic, I know; I'm divorced though, and had gotten used to having someone there to cuddle with. I would let my cat sleep with me, but he has long fur and I think I may be slightly allergic ( ... )

I have many disgusting obsessions. Every inanimate object I come across, I imagine the taste and what it would feel like in my mouth. GROSSSSSSS. I hate it.
