That was kinda my thought. I guess they have to have at least one rather questionable award each year, and since they weren't giving Avatar the Best Picture one, they had to do this instead.
I'll bet there was a three-way split between Sidibe, Streep and Mulligan and Bullock came in with the win. The Last Station hasn't been in wide enough release in the US for Mirren to have an honest chance at the award.
Why does everyone hate Sandra Bullock so much? Ok, she's not the best actress ever, but I like her.
I was more shocked to find out with all the nominations Meryl Streep has had over the years she's only won twice - in the eighties!!!! Now that's a travesty. She's done a lot of good work since the eighties. And I'm sorry, but that portrayal of Julia Child was phenomenal and amazing!!
I don't hate her. In fact, I think she turned in a solid performance in The Blind Side. My comment was in relation to the fact that, given the other performances that were nominated, hers won. Meryl Streep was a sheer delight in Julie & Julia, Carey Mulligan was amazing in An Education, and don't even get me started on Gabby Sidibe. Whoa. (didn't see Helen Mirren's performance, can't say.)
I like Sandra, but yeah, compared to the other actresses up for the award, eh. I didn't see the movie she was in, so I canna truly judge. But really, it doesn't sound like much of a role to me. Mommy roles don't usually impress me that much in general.
