When walking on shallow snow on top of concrete (i.e. sidewalk), avoid those snow-free patches where you can see through to the surface underneath. That's actually ICE, don't step there! -

Small shops ROCK!
When I have something that needs fixed, or in need of service with actual personal attention, I've always had the best experiences with the small "mom & pop" stores. I just had my boots re-soled at a local dry cleaners / shoe-repair outfit by an old guy who'd been working there for over 20 years. molasses is NOT an appropriate substitute for corn syrup
Now I have a double-chocolate layer cake with icing that tastes like molasses. bleh. It was the first time I have made a double-layer cake and it was an educational experience.
