In the most recent issue of Via (AAA's magazine), there's an article on shopping while traveling. Apparently, some huge number of people shop while traveling, and an ever-growing number of them travel *to* shop - often at the same stores they have at home! Different places have different feels to them and I enjoy both the experience of exploring a new place and the expansion of my repertoire of place feelings.

I like to see different cultures in their native surroundings. Like you say, to see the 1001 little ways in which common things are different.

And of course sometimes I just *must* have a pair of shoes that I can only get in London.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply! Of course, this question must be quite timely for you. I'm extremely envious of your trip. I'd love to do something similar!

I think you are right that travel is a chance to be a different you than the everyday, working-girl you. You're grappling with simple things and everything is completely what you make of it. You don't have the accretions around you that make up your "normal" life. And that's always fascinating.

Speaking of travel, good luck with your holidays, and your continuing journey! And good luck with figuring out what comes next!
