I suppose that I could probably type this out faster if I actually did it on my computer, but I figure that I should get used to using the Wii controllers, and browsing online through the console is some good practice. So, yeah, we broke down and got a Wii. Actually, I should say I broke down, because Tim, a long-time Nintendo fan, was already in ( Read more... )

Yeah. We;ve been wanting to get one of those, as well. They look like they might be pretty cool. And congratulations on your apartment and your license. :P

The controls really level the playing field for everyone, and the combination of game console with straight-up web connectivity make it a true entertainment center. Tim has bookmarked a couple of his favorite TV websites so he can watch his programs on the bigger TV screen and we still don't have to buy cable. The wiimote control is both overtly and subtly the biggest thing I've been impressed with. (aside from the choice of direction the whole system is taking.) As a pointer, it is mouse-acurrate, and doesn't require a lot of training to get used to. If you get a Wii, just use your fingers and wrists intuitively and you'll adapt to it easily.

The games so far are lots of fun, but as exilejedi says below, read your reviews to avoid the duds. Dude, buy the Zelda game when you get the system. (as if you weren't gonna...) Nintendo has built as system that is truly family-friendly. I'm sure you guys would enjoy it.

Wii is rather attractive. It's the first gaming console that Lars and I have sincerely considered getting.

I highly recommend it. Even if it doesn't pack a line-up of hugely popular guns-and-knives-and-race-cars game titles, there's nothing I've seen on here that I wouldn't describe as 'fun'. The Wii is not the XBox's "BLAM! IN YOUR FACE, DUUUUDE!" and it is not the PS3's "¡ am 2 1337 4 U suckas." It much more a system for entertainment than those things and it really is relaxing (unless you count the Water Temple from the Zelda game, according to Danielle).

See, we're soooo not into those kind of games, so their absence is part of the reason Wii is attractive. The games we've tried on the Wii are extremely fun, though. And they're coming out with a Harvest Moon game sometime soon, which just increases the attraction for me.

Hmm... I duly note your recommendations. One of my co-workers was suggesting WarioWare, too...

We tried WarioWare at a friend's house (if it's the one I'm thinking of), and although it was a blast, I think my attention span is too long for it.

I've got Rayman. It's cool, but it doesn't maintain my interest outside of a group setting.

When you finish with Zelda, let me know if you want to do a temporary trade.

I also recommend Madden 2007. I don't even like football and I enjoy it. My wife enjoys Bust-a-Move, but I think you have to like that style of game to make buying it worthwhile.

man, zelda is the absolute shit. i was sad when i finished playing it. plus it's a really long but the wii mote, you can kind of lounge in weird ways whilst playing it. however there really aren't any good games. i've played probably 95% of the wiigames on the market right now and the only ones that i thought were genuinely fun were warioware and cooking mama. there will be good games coming out, however, so there's that! like the new sims game and smash bros :O

also congrats on the licence! :) i wish nothing but the best for you, darling!
