Nov 06, 2016 06:06

The Roman Catholic Church has been a powerful political bloc in this country for decades. Cardinals and archbishops are often considered kingmakers. Just look at the Al Smith Dinner in New York, or the annual Red Mass that begins the Supreme Court session. The Catholic Church does not think highly of the idea of a wall of separation between church ( Read more... )

We voted "yes"!

I've never actually used dope, but outlawing it is insane in a country that produces whiskey; prohibition never works; and we already have a marijuana industry. It's the underground drug trade. (eyeroll)

It's been 35 years since I puffed. I may never touch the stuff. But of my three-score years and ten, three-score will not come again. I'm at the age when the wheels start falling off. For purely selfish reasons, a mild euphoric that provides pain relief and anxiety reduction is something I want to have available to me.

The Devil's Weed ~ natevw November 15 2016, 15:32:23 UTC

I don't know where to stand on this .

In California they just passed he recreational pot law so it's maybe a moot point .

I have a houseful of Teenaged Foster boys and I get to see up close and personally what happens when they become vipers .

It's not good .

Maybe pot should be restricted to Adults ? .

I dunno .

I can't speak to the California law since I haven't read it, but I'll bet it's similar to the new Massachusetts law. Cannabis is limited to those 21 or older, full stop.

I live in small town in which the median age is 17 years older than the Commonwealth as a whole. There were more votes against legalization than for it in my town, and most of the people I spoke to said that they didn't want kids getting ahold of it (even though they themselves smoked when they were young).

In about a month, it will be illegal for people under the age of 21 to possess marijuana. Same as now. It's also illegal for people under the age of 21 to possess alcohol. The Commonwealth is planning to raise the legal age for tobacco purchases to 21 as well.

As I said, I'm not affected one way or the other. I don't smoke tobacco or drink alcohol, and I'm unlikely to become a pothead. Much as I sympathize with concern for young people, I do not favor banning steak because babies can't chew it.

Well Bill ;

You make your point but the facts remain that as Adults (?) we're supposed to guide and nurture Young Folks and watching them become lazy and shiftless and have schooling difficulties makes one change how they feel about this as they age and get a better big picture to look at .
