woke up at about 5am this morning with my wrist REALLY hurting ... I think I've slept on it funny or something, cos I appear to have fucked one of the ligaments or tendons in my wrist, cos it hurts like hell when I try to bend my wrist so far in most directions :( owwww :( no fair

Could it be a trapped nerve or something in your wrist? I always sleep on mine badly and it hurts like hell for a while when I wake up...
