Doctor Who

Can someone recommend the absolute best episodes, perhaps one or two? I just finished watching the first one, 'Rose', and, well, I thought it was stupid. I don't want to judge an entire show based on one episode, though, so this is why I'm asking for the best. Is this episode even considered good to fans or is this akin to judging all of Star Trek ( Read more... )

I agree with what everyone else is saying- you can skip to when it picks up a bit.

Also, reading the comments here remind me how much I miss Donna. T.T

I shall definitely be skipping around, as clearly that's the way to go. ;)

Pretty much echoing what everyone else said! Don't judge it by that one episode (because it really isn't a great one in my opinion) and keep in mind that the show can be pretty camp..

OMG OKAY LET ME PUT ON MY SPECTACLES

I did like "New Earth" a little, except I hate Rose and some of the plot was silly and unbelievable, but I adored Ten, that he wasn't fooled by that creature taking over Rose and how he reacted to seeing all the caged human/zombies/sick people. I also watched "Blink", and it was just fantastic, so it gave me hope that I could at least respect the show. I'll take your suggestions. :)

Ohhhhh, apparently I read your entry too fast and missed the bit about Rose being dull.. haha.

In that case I'd suggest skipping to a few season three episodes, because they're awesome ("Blink" which you've already watched, and "Human Nature" because it's different and it involves something you'll need to know later.. And the last three of the season because they sort of go together and they involve The Master). There are still moments of ridiculousness (and one moment of complete cheese near the very end of the season) but they're good.. and the Doctor/Master thing is great. And Jack Harkness is in the last two episodes of the season.

OR I'd say just skip right to Donna's season (avoiding the Christmas specials) because Donna is a badass and doesn't do the whole "pining for the Doctor" thing that Rose and Martha are somewhat guilty of.. I'm not really a fan of companions pining for the Doctor, so as much as I sort of like the Ten/Rose thing, I also sort of hate it.. and, rereading your original post, Rose isn't technically a ( ... )

I dislike season one. I adore the Doctor as a character but I think the show is at it's weaskest in the first season, and much like you, Rose isn't my faverate. I don't hate her but I have other characters I like better.

So, yeah, to me 'The Alternative Factor'. And I doubt it's likely to make anyones top ten lists.

I...I think we have a similar mindset when it comes to Doctor Who so I can toss some episodes at you.

I think Empty Child/Doctor Dances are a must for season one. They really are the episodes that made me sit up and think...hey, I like this show. For Season two it's The Girl in the Fireplace and season three it's Blink (which I can see from the comments you loved.)

The connecting factor? Stephen Moffat. So perhaps you would do better with Season Five. (I know I do xD) and perhaps you might get on with other assistants better than Rose. I can see you adoreing Donna and Amy.

I'd say all of Season 5, but if you want only one or two episodes:

'The Time of Angels' - Episode 5.04 (it's basically with the same creatures from 'Blink'. This is if you want a scare factor. It continues on into 'Of Flesh and Stone' 5.05.

'The Pandorica Opens' and 'The Big Bang' - 5.12 and 5.13 (they're the two final episodes of Season 5, but boy do they pack a punch. Especially TBB.

Or even 'The Beast Below' 5.02. It's only the 2nd episode, but I pretty much fell in love with the show after this one.

I have watched only... *searchs title* "The Empty Child" (1x09) because I wanted to see Jack Harkness (*ç*) and... that episode is creepy but... well, intriguing. Give it a try!
I'll try to poke my partner in crime, who's currently doing a DW marathon, but don't hold your breath (my memory is a black hole). XD
