Announcements and yet more damning evidence

Tomorrow on ontd_startrek is anarchy day, which is when the mods let you post just about anything you want and it doesn't have to be Star Trek related.  I know for sure I'm doing a Due South post and if no one else does it first, a little Psych post.  \o/  This shit is going to be epic.  Then again, when are things not epic here?

You know, I realize that a good ( Read more... )

This is the best fandom I've been a part of so far, and I can't even begin to explain how amazing everything is. I mean, it's like I have two fandoms rolled into one, and there's just so much to do and to see. So if it bothers you enough, you can always defriend. I'd completely understand, as I'd probably be annoyed too if I were you. At least I'm still gleefully watching SPN. I was afraid that I wouldn't be a few months ago.OMG YES YES YES TO THIS. When a show is over. I usually obsess for awhile and move on. It's just how it goes. But this time, a new fandom came along and I got so, so obsessed. There's just SO MUCH in Star Trek fandom... two different things, feels like - TOS and nu!Trek - but it's the same characters and the same fans. Everyone has been so amazing and excellent and wank-free that I can barely look back on SPN fandom and say I was as proud of it as I am of ST fandom. But seriously. I feel you on so much of this. (Especially since we both are hardcore Kirk/Spock! OMG TOO MUCH KIRK/MCCOY OUT THERE, LOL.) I was ( ... )

It's INSANE how much fic is out there. I can never get tired because even if I don't feel like nu!trek today, I can go read TOS and it's totally new. I'm amazed that it has been so wank free thus far, what with all the pairings and interests going on. I was proud of SPN fandom for maybe half a year before the worst of the wank started and everyone went at each other's throats all the time. And I acknowledge your pain about Kirk/McCoy. Maybe it's because most who ship it haven't seen TOS? I don't know, because when I watched the STXI movie for the first time, I came away with Kirk/Spock easy.

I have AIM, I'm bigmamagpimpess on there. I'm sort of sucky with IM, going on with it for a good amount of time and then slacking, but just kick me in the ass once in a while and I'll be fine. :)

OMG, yes to everything you said. And it's like... the characters, while still the same, have totally different feels to it. TOS!K/S is totally different from Nu!K/S. I love it so much. I do love Supernatural fandom, though, I love how excellent so many of the writers are, how much meta there is, but the wank happens now every. single. day. and I'm tired of it. I've tasted nonwanky fandom in ST and now I can't really go back, lol. Not really sure where all of the Kirk/McCoy fans are coming from, but I agree in that there's really only basis for it in the new film rather than in the series.

I'll add you on AIM, babe! I'm also not online all the time and really lazy about IMing people, but I'll shoot you an IM one of these days! XD

a good portion of my f-list is annoyed that I post about Star Trek all the time, and I'd say I'm sorry if I was sorry at all. This is the best fandom I've been a part of so far, and I can't even begin to explain how amazing everything is.

I completely understand! It's the same with my lj. I feel like I'm annoying half my flist, but I just don't care! Star Trek is AMAZING and the fandom is so awesome :D

..and K/S.. just.. there are no words.. ♥

No words except HOLY SHIT, THIS IS SLASH. I'll talk about this in a later post to stagger them, but I wanted to talk about how I used to think about Star Trek.

Like, when I first learned of Kirk/Spock being the grandfathers of slash, I had someone on my flist who made TOS vids. I watched half of one and was like, dude, that show looks so cheesy and they don't look slashy at all. In my mind, since the show was in the 60's, it wasn't as slashy as anything today was because there couldn't be much slash from a show from the 60's. I thought, "They only ship it because there was nothing else around."

Little did I know that the opposite was true: They were slashed BECAUSE it was so obvious and gay that people in that time easily took notice and it was passed around like blackmarket goods in fanzines.

So yeah, think of all the years I could have been fangirling these two. Must make up for it!

Ohh, I know! For years I hated Star Trek. I say "hate" but it wasn't really hate because I'd never even watched the show. I'd seen bits and pieces and thought it was just some corny show from the 60's (which is weird because I was a huge fan of the Monkees, and it was a corny show from the 60's). I avoided TNG because it had Star Trek in the title, and when I discovered slash (in the LOTR fandom) and heard about Kirk/Spock I was disturbed! Like, "they're old.. how can people like them, let alone want to read stories about them?" Ohh.. How clueless I was ( ... )

LOL, that would be a kick ass line to deliver to people on Halloween, definitely. \o/

I can't even be sorry Star Trek takes up all my time, because I am SO NOT. I was the same way about Star Trek. I knew pretty much nothing about it. Someone on my flist posted a lot of videos with Pinto, so I was like, why are they spamming this? Then I gathered that there was a Star Trek movie, and I was like OH, that's ZQ, Sylar! I mentioned it to my mom and she was like OH SHIT, WE'RE GOING! And I went and WAS CHANGED FOR LIFE, LOL.

Bondmates and/or t'hy'la.

*happy sigh*

Why do I not spend more time in this fandom? I mean, it is clearly, objectively, awesome, and yet we haven't really clicked yet. I am missing out.

I...have no CLUE. Hot damn, there's so little evidence against it that it's insane, and you really have to be trying not to believe in it at least a little.
