Another illustration

I just thought I would share another one of the Czech illustrations with you. It's from Biggles and the Plot that Failed.
I found it printed while digging through some of my old stuff a while ago. Surprisingly, I immediately remembered from which book it was, so I could take a photo of it directly from the book.

Behold! The face of a hero! :D :D

Wow! That is quite spectacularly 80s (am I right?).

I quite like it, he's very square jawed, but I'm not entirely sure that it is my idea of Biggles.

Nope, not 80s, even though his posture looks a bit like that of a figurine from a shopwindow. Most Biggles books were published in the 90s and after 2000 here.

It's not that much of my idea of Biggles either, but it certainly is one of the better illustrations.

I was nearly there, just a decade out :D

You are right, in that pose he does look a bit more suited to a clothing catalogue than a desert.

are those aviators?
that's so...not Biggles, but typical of what illustrators think.

I was baffled by the sunglasses but aparently that style has been around since the early 50s. They just pinged me as being ridiculously 80s and so not Biggles.

Oh, research! I like it.
I'd agree with you- they're so overt. Remind me a bit of certain other pilots who try and emulate that look.
It's times like these I wish I could draw.

I just can't help researching things, luckily that's my job. I thought that the sunglasses were so typically 80s, that I had to research it and then I found I was wrong.

The illustrations are generally hilarious. I'm currently amused by a picture where Ginger appears to be entirely naked, another where Biggles is smoking a pipe and one with Gimlet in a beret.

Oh dear, dear, dear. Between the aviators, the square jaw and the pose, just... no. But highly entertaining!

But Biggles does have a square jaw, doesn't he? :D

I always picture him as far slighter, more effeminate (not because of my slashy reading, but my impression from Johns' descriptions... though my memory isn't photographic). I see him more like Stephen Campbell Moore than Adam Baldwin.

I agree with you on that ;)
