For some reason I've been having a cough for the past few weeks. At first it wasn't so bad, and I'd only cough once in a while. I figured it was probably a cold.
But then, this past week it started getting worse. This is why I suspect it may be allergies and not a cold. Colds don't usually last for over 2 weeks.
It seemed to be the worst at night, while driving, and especially at work. Tues or Wed morning, I was coughing so hard I had to pull over from delivering papers, and vomited a few times during coughing on the side of the road (including vomiting up a claritin I had taken an hour before). The next night, driving home from school, I coughed hard and vomited a little, even after taking Allegra. So allergy medication fails for me. A couple mornings ago, I tried Dayquil, and coughed kinda hard but didn't throw up, and pulled over and took some time to relax and breathe.
It usually starts with coughing that increases in intensity until I'm coughing so hard my whole body is shaking. And then sometimes I cough so hard food comes up. This is combined with my body temp going up so high my skin is hot to the touch and is either clammy or I'm sweating profusely. The episode USUALLY goes away after about 5-10 minutes but I may continue to cough afterward.
My doctor's on some family emergency so I'll see him next week. And my boss is a grouchy old man who would tell me to "suck it up" and bear it, rather than give me time off. So I've bought more medication, cough drops, and today I bought medical masks to keep stuff out. It does seem to be going away though.
I just hope it's something as simple as pollen and not a serious ailment. I'm also hoping my doctor can give me something to help the cough, as no medication seems to be able to suppress it completely.
