It's been a week since the crazy Groundhog Day Snow Storm (Snowpocolypse 2011) that came through. And I'm so busy it took a week for me to post about it. See how little time I have to do anything besides work and school?
They predicted from 10-15 inches and luckily only 5-6" fell (in this area, some areas got around 12"), because in the middle of the storm a sudden mass of warm air pushed into the storm and dissipated half of it.
I had to deliver papers anyway. Main roads were plowed but side streets were a mess. Some apartment complexes were clear and some weren't. I only got a third of the route done and gave up. No one complained, and I delivered the rest the next day.
I helped some guy out. His car was stuck on an uphill apartment driveway that was only half plowed as the truck was still plowing. He was some asian guy in a honda stuck on the unplowed half, maybe because he didn't get snow in his home country. And he was trying to drive uphill in the unplowed side. So I told him to turn and drive backwards towards the unplowed half, and I pushed, and the car slid onto the cleared area.
On Sat afternoon there was a surprise snowstorm which added 3" (6" for some areas) and made the roads a mess again. Thanks to that and the first blizzard I was not getting a lot of sleep that week. Thursday and Sunday it took me over an hour more to finish.
Thanks to all the snow I've bought a shovel, traction mats, a tow rope, emergency chains, and salt, considered buying a ratchet puller and snow chains, and also put a flashlight, emergency jump starter, and air compressor in my trunk.
I've gotten stuck several times so far. Twice I had to be pulled back onto the road with a tow truck. Twice I was able to dig myself out with the shovel and mats. Once I was pushed out by a co-worker.
Groundhog didn't see his shadow (too many clouds). Supposedly this means early spring. I call bullshit but I hope to god he's right, this winter's driving me insane.
