Dinah was wandering after talk with Tahiri, thinking deep thoughts. In a quest to avoid them, she climbed up a floor and tapped on the slightly open door. "Helloooooo."

Dinah stared. "Really? That was it? Hunh." She paused. "Maybe I do make things too complicated."

"On my voice... box. So I asked her about it after and we--well we tried to go out but I was an old man at the time."

"Ohhhh, that's right." And ohhhh, that was meant to be Priestly. Right. Never telling that. "And I was wearing a stupid costume. And Francine was flying! That part was pretty awesome."

Dinah couldn't help but smile at that. "And it's been like that mostly since then, hunh." She poked his knee. "Except for needing help to ask her out. And various mishaps." Like lions and pillows and porn! But Dinah wasn't drunk now, so she wasn't going to mention that out loud. "And zombies." Hmm.

"But that all worked out!" Kinda. Maybe. Oh, they were so special.

"Well, nobody's dead," Dinah had to agree. "And you're still together." And you had sex! "So I guess it did." She grinned. "And you're each organizing a Reserve thing, which is awesome. And not ditching your friends, which is important. So yaaaay."

"...why would we ditch our friends?"

"It's a thing some people do. Well, girls, sometimes. They don't hang with their friends as much, once they get a boyfriend." Dinah looked thoughtful. "But you were buds first, and have all the same friends, so no reason to."

"That would be very lonely to not want any friends after dating someone," Merlin replied thoughtfully.

"Yup. 'Cause," Dinah was thinking this through as she said it, "It's not like one person can be everything. I mean, I have friends for different reasons and to do different things with, and the only way one guy could replace all of you is if he had multiple personality disorder and no life of his own." She nodded thoughtfully, then paused. "What do you want when you get married and stuff? Waaaay down the line?"

Girl talk. It's not just for girls!

"Well, I have my duties first right now." Ah, good for avoidance.

"After your duties." Dinah frowned. "No, during. Next to? You know what I mean. Duties first, yes." She got that. "But you can't only be duty. Well, maybe you can. I'd screw it up. Or die, maybe." She went quiet, then gave him an anxious look. "There has to be something for yourself. Right?"

"Well, of course. But--" He had his Duties. Capital d there. "--it's not like here."

Dinah frowned. "Because people are looking at you more? Or, um. It's more life-and-death?" Because there's no TV? Or even minstrels?

Look, he said that, and then didn't elaborate; her brain went strange places.
