I KNOW. Like you, I laughed, cried, and went all Epic Kermit Flail until I couldn't contain myself and unloaded on Mr. Sun, who doesn't even watch the show.
I'm going to do a rewatch over the summer, and I can't wait.
Right? So good! And infinitely rewatchable. I rewatched partway through last season with a friend who hadn’t watched yet and we did 1.5 seasons in a weekend, including 16 episodes in one day, which is a record even for me, LOL. Good times. :D
Also, Alaric was my one true lust object on that show and not only was that last scene with him and Jeremy amazing and tear-inducing, I was very sad that I'll not have hot history teacher action on my television every week any more.
I know, I loved Alaric. :(((((( I really will miss him on the show, and I hope we see his ghost again! His relationship with Jeremy (and Elena) was so sweet.
I like Michael Trevino, but I’m not sure he has the chops to play Klaus permanently. I did really like Joseph Morgan (I think that’s his name?), too. We shall see.
The actor who plays Alaric is going to star in a new pilot on CW, titled Cult. Maybe that's why they killed him off? Although nobody knows if it'll be picked up for a series.
Couldn't Elena swim out of the car once Stefan ripped the door off??!? But yeah, minor quibbles (how low cut is that cheerleading outfit!?) in an otherwise outstanding finale. I'm SO WORRIED about Caroline and Tyler. And I fully believed they were going to go ahead and kill Tyler. I'm glad they didn't, but still.
I actually really hope they keep her a vampire. Caroline got so much more awesome when she turned! But Elena's pretty great already. Whatever happens will probably have something to do with her being the doppleganger. But Katherine turned, so...hmmm. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT.
I had a quibble with the Decade Dance episode too - that Jeremy never stopped moving long enough to get the full effect of the 20s outfit! :)
Caroline as vamp was such a great choice, but I feel like Elena is already awesome and that enough people have become vampires (I really wish Tyler had just stayed a werewolf).
I was just reading an interview with Julie Plec that has some info about where they're taking things next season (and some places where she admits even they don't know what's going to happen yet) -- you can read it here if you like:
Anyway, since I see someone already told you Elena is going to transition, this isn't really a new spoiler, so I'll just say that JP mentions the fact that, in the books, Elena became a vampire "on, like, page 200 of the first book", and she says it was always their intention to eventually make her a vampire, but they didn't want it to be nearly as quickly as it happened in the books.
Also, if she turns, I feel like it would really take something away from
( ... )
Huh! I had no idea Elena turned (and so quickly!) in the books.
Hmmm, you raise a v.v. compelling point. I guess I've just always liked the danger of the human/vamp romance, and the high stakes that comes attached. But you're right that forever really does change things in the triangle.
I read an interview with Executive Producer and writer Julie Plec and she seemed to indicate that Elena will go through with the transition- they will try in the 1st ep to avoid it but ultimately that is the next chapter of the story: Elena as a vampire and what that means for her relationships with friends, family, and the Salvatores. Should be interesting!
Huh. I don’t know how I feel about that, but I guess we’ll see. It’s definitely a bold move, and that’s this show’s hallmark - making game-changing choices several times a season!

This will be very interesting, that's for sure!
