Olympic Figure Skating for Dummies, Volume II

The Olympics are less than a week away! Anyone else excited?

Four years ago (my, how time flies!) I made an Olympic Figure Skating for Dummies post and quite a few people said they appreciated the rundown on the podium contenders. So I thought I'd do it again for the casual skating watchers out there. I tried my best to get pictures of the skaters ( Read more... )

Here's my silly bias: I hate those stupid flesh coloured skate covers. beyond the fact they make their feet and legs look awful they instantly make me wonder what is wrong with your footwork that you're trying to hide with those covers?

[Also taking school figures out of the competition was and remains a mistake. So there.]

I know, I hate them too! They're supposed to make your legs look longer, which is why they wear them, but I don't think it works.

I think figures were important, but should have been a much smaller part of the competition. There is something lost in the edgework with a lot of skaters these days.

Yes, I wish they had left them in but just altered the point value. Having them in prevented the jumpers who can only jump from winning. Which was a good thing in my book.

As a former figure skater with short, stumpy legs, yes... they do make your legs look longer. ;) Plus I always enjoyed not having to polish my skates before competitions and tests, hahaha.

I thin I must be the only one who legitimately doesn't like the Olympics. Not that I'm saying like, "oh, this post is stupid" or anything, because it is most certainly not; it's really comprehensive and detailed and appreciated by many, but I've always just been like, "yawn, Olympics?" And I know I should care because it's A: Winter, and Canada pwns at Winter, and B: it's actually in Canada, but I can't. Blerg.

Yeah, I don't get that, LOL. But I've always loved the Olympics. To each their own. :)
