I had an awesome weekend. bliss_ came to visit for her birthday, and on a complete whim, mcfeste flew out on a Friday night red eye to surprise her. It was fabulous. We went to see the Saturday and Sunday matinees of Spring Awakening and Amy came to the theatre on Saturday from the airport and shocked the hell out of Bliss. *g ( Read more... )

The problem with the run in Toronto is that half the audience members were Mirvish subscribers who see every show they put on. That's the bulk of Mirvish's sales every year. So you've got a lot of people in the audience who would never choose to see SA. But on the flipside, on stage on Saturday, the middle-aged man beside me was there with his wife and teenaged daughter (they were in front of us), and he said he and the wife saw it in NYC and thought it would be great to take their daughter (she was about 14ish) to see it. She loved it, and I had to stop myself from telling her she had really cool parents. Did your mom like it, btw? I think it would be too loud for my mom, as she's not really into rock. But she wouldn't care about the boy kissing, etc ( ... )

Steffi and Kyle really are adorable, as are Kimiko and Lucas. Did you see the second part of Niagara Falls? It was so sweet how Matt S. was fretting about Krystina being up on the ledge. Awww. They're a cute couple, too. I just love this cast so much.

Zac really is talented. Thanks for the Leslie link, that did make me like her more. She was just so abrasive in Knocked Up.

I've heard that Kyle has improved significantly since he's been on the tour (I only ever saw him once on BW and thought he was just ok - certainly not bad, but not my favourite). Matt will probably always be my favourite Melchior as well (and I'm still incredibly jealous that you got to see him so many times - I knew I should have just moved to Toronto!)

And hmm. The idea of weekly doses of Kyle sounds fantastic. I adore that boy.

And the whole Matt/Wesley thing has been keeping me endlessly amused this weekend. It's far less wanky than the whole Van Hansis/Tyler Hanes deal, which is nice (because that got a little nasty at one point :\). But still, very entertaining.

The fact that Wesley thanks "Matty" in the RoA playbill is possibly the cutest thing ever, Y/Y?
Um, ok, I don't think they could possibly be any more adorable. It's sweet enough that Matt is pushing RoA in his blog so much. I have no other knowledge of them as a couple, but I have decided that they must be pretty damn cute ♥

We got ridiculously lucky in Toronto. Honestly, having Matt come here for a month to play Melchi was like my wildest fangirl dream improbably coming true. I still have to pinch myself that it happened! I don't think there's anyone on planet Earth I would like more as Melchior than Matt. The combination of his voice (which I would assert is the strongest of any of the actors who've played the role), his acting and his personal awesome cuteness is just too much.

I heard Kyle improved a lot as well. I quite liked him and I don't get the hate. But I don't get the Alexandra Socha hate either, so.

Yes, Matt/Wesley is far less wanky (so far) than Van/Tyler. It still amazes me that there are people who insist Van is straight. *facepalm* I'd never heard anything about who Matt was dating and I just thought he was a big RoA fan, which I thought was cute. Now it's even cuter, if possible. If they are indeed dating, I hope they're very happy. They're certainly taking a run at Most Adorable Boy Couple 2009. Matty! Awwwwww.

I loved 17 Again. Zac, I thought, was really good, and played his part well, both the comedy and the angst. And my favorite line is still "'Sup!" I am now hoping to talk my friends into going so I can see it again!

I totally want to see it again, too! Zac really is a talented actor. Oh man, that 'sup was hilarious. Even though it was in the trailer, it still made me laugh and laugh. The whole cast was great, too. Sterling Knight was awesome as Zac's son.

I saw the closing show of Spring Awakening on Sunday too! It was so good. It was my sixth time seeing it and I love it more every time. It's one of those shows that really benefits from seeing it several times because there is so much going on that you see something new every time. The guy I sat next to didn't seem to enjoy having to be away from his Blackberry very much. He was on it all during intermission and then appeared completely bored through the rest of it, he didn't applaud for anything. I also saw 3 older women walk out after My Junk. I wish I was as close as you for Andy & Ben's scene because it's on of my favorites. I'm so sad I didn't get to see it on Broadway. I've only known about Spring Awakening for 3 weeks and now I'm completely in love with it. Can you recommend any communities that would entertain my love for all things Spring Awakening ( ... )

That's great you were there, too! That was such a wonderful show yesterday. At least there were lots of fans there to overpower the bored and/or horrified audience members.

Matt's Melchior is just so perfect. I don't think anyone else can do it better than him (for me, anyway).

I only saw SA for the first time in November on Broadway and I fell head over heels. So I know what you mean about the three weeks. This show became a fandom obsession very quickly! As for communities, do you go to The Guilty Ones? TGO is the main fan community.

Glad you enjoyed the Toronto run, too! It's going to be weird next weekend not going to the Canon. Heh.

Sounds like your weekend (other than the cranky women at SA) was excellent. Why do people like that go to shows like that? Or, more importantly, why do they STAY for the whole thing? Why not just leave and get a ticket refund? Why ruin it for everyone else?

I'm kinda tempted to see 17 Again but literally can't see a free night to actually attend for the next billion weeks or so. (I may be exaggerating a tiny bit there). Glad you enjoyed it!

It was definitely excellent! The older women were undoubtedly subscribers who see every show the theatre company puts on, but it is strange that they stayed after intermission. They had such amazing seats, too. I hate seeing front row wasted on people who don't want to see cute boys kissing.

If you get a chance, do see the movie. So much fun!
